Teaching procedures and ways 教学过程与方式 Step I Revision and lead-in Review the functional structure of making requests and giving responses by asking students some questions. T: In the last period, we’ve learned the structure “Would you mind ...?” Now, please answer my questions. Would you mind cleaning your room? S1: I’m sorry. I’ll do it right away. T: Would you mind not playing in the park? S2: Sorry. We’ll go and play on the street. T: Would you mind moving your car? S3: No, not at all. Point to the pictures of activity 3a on page 54. T: What’s he doing? S1: He is washing the dishes. T: Yes, what about Picture 2? S2: There is a boy and a dog in the picture. The boy is feeding the dog. T: What can you see in Picture 3? S3: The boy is cooking meal. T: Look at this picture. Where is the boy going? S4: He is going to the library. T: What’s the boy in Picture 5 doing? S5: He is doing his homework. Then let students complete the letter from Mom to Larry according to the pictures. Give a summary about different ways of making requests: Would you mind...? Could you please...? Please... You have to... Step II Pairwork (3b, P54) T: Please look at the sample dialogue in 3b. I’ll let two students read it to the class. S1: Would you mind getting up? You have to help me in the kitchen. S2: Ok. I’ll get up right away. Do I have to wash the dishes? S1: Yes, and you have to help me make dinner. S2: Ok. When I finish, could you help me with my homework? S1: Sure. T: Wonderful. Sit down, please. There are some orders in the box on the left. Make dialogues with “would you”, “could you” and “have to” like this one. Sample dialogue: A: Would you mind turning down the TV? I have to do my homework. B: Sorry. I’ll do it right away. A: Could you help me with my maths? B: Yes, do I have to turn off the TV? A: No, you don’t have to. Step III Groupwork (4, P54) Let students read the instructions in activity 4, finish the table and make conversations. T: Look at the dialogue. I’ll get two students to read it. S1: Yan Ming, could you make some posters? S2: Sure, that’s no problem. And could you clean the room? T: Now, look at the survey, please fill in the table. Then ask a few students to share their lists. Step IV Homework Jerry is sleeping late on Saturday morning. But his mother wants him to do homework, clean his room, buy some food and do the cooking. What should his mother do? Please help his mom to write a note about it.
