教学过程
Step 1 Greetings
Greet the students as usual.
Step 2 Revision
Get some pairs to read their passage.
Step 3 Presentation
Say：Yesterday，I was late for the school meeting. My alarm didn’t go off so I got up late. The headmaster was very angry. I was very sorry for this.
Step 4 Pair work
1a, Ask：Have you ever been late for or couldn’t go to an event? What was the event? What was the reason why you were late or couldn’t go? Tell your partner the story. Then ask some students to report their story.
Step 5 Listening
1b, Ask the students to go through the questions quickly and play the tape for the students to listen and write short answers to the questions. Play at least twice.Then ask some students to report their answers.
1c, Ask the students to go through the sentences first，and then guess the order the events happened. Ask some students to report their guessing. Then play the tape for the students to listen and number the events in the order they happened. Then give the students several minutes to remember the events and then ask some students to try to retell the story without referring to the book.
Step 6 Speaking
1d Ask the students to talk about why Kate missed the school basketball competition. Then practice in pairs：Student A begins a sentence with while or when. Student B completes the sentence. Then ask some pairs to act out their dialogue.
Step 7 Presentation
Say：How can we grasp the main idea of a passage quickly? Ask some students to report their opinions. Then the teacher conclude：You can read the title，the first sentences and you can also look at the pictures in the passage. The title can be helpful for your to understand a text. It is also a good idea to read the first sentence of each paragraph before you read the whole text.
2a, Now please look at the pictures and title in the passage. What do you think the passage is about? Ask some students to report their opinions.
Step 8 Reading
Give the students enough time to read the passage and then try to finish the exercises in 2b，2c and 2d. First ask them to check the answers with their partner and then ask some studenst to report their answers. Correct some mistakes if any. Explain some important and difficult points.
2e, Say：Now we have learned the passage，how much do you remember about the events in the passage? Please ask and answer questions to test your partner.
Step 9 Homework
Go over the important words，phrases and sentences of this unit.
课堂作业
Try to retell the two events in the passage in 2b.
