Step I Lead-in
T: Hello, everyone. The weather is fine today. It is good to have a trip, but we have to have some classes. Please go back to our English class. Have you finished Linda’s plan?
Ss: Yes.
T: OK. I ask some students to read the plans.
Ask some students to read their plans in front of the class.

T: You made a trip plan for Daniel. Would you like to have a trip?

T: Now let’s learn about well-known places and tourist sights in Beijing.
Step II Presentation
T: Have you ever been to Beijing? How many places of interest do you know in Beijing? What are they? Who can say them out?
S1: The Palace Museum, the Great Wall, the Summer Palace, Tian’anmen Square, Wangfujing Street.
T: You do very well. Let’s enjoy the places on the screen and learn them by heart.
Show some pictures of the places of interest in Beijing and lead in the new words. Ss can remember the places easily.
Step III Free talk — What can you see/do such places of interest?
T: We enjoyed the famous places in Beijing just now. Then what can we see / do in such places of interest in Beijing? Divide the class into groups of four, talk about them in groups. At last, choose one group to act them out. The other groups check answers.
Sample:
A: What can you see at Tian’anmen Square?
B: We can see the Monument to the People’s Heroes.
A: What can you see in the Palace Museum?
B: We can see the things people used in the past and some old pictures.
A: What can you visit on Wangfujing Street?
B: We can visit the big shops.
A: What can you do in Laoshe Tea House?
B: We can drink special Beijing tea and enjoy wonderful Beijing opera.
A: What can you climb up and look at the amazing view?
B: We can climb up the Great Wall and look at the amazing view.
A: Where can you walk slowly around the big lake and feel the beauty of the old park?
B: We can walk slowly around the big lake and feel the beauty of the old park in the Summer Palace.
When they finished, ask the students to open their books at page 44.
T: Please look at the list of things that Linda might like to do. Help Kitty complete the list. Check the correct answers with the whole class by asking individual students to read out the sentences.
Step IV How do we get there?
1. Introduce different kinds of transportation.
T: Now, answer some questions. How do you go to school?
S1: I go to school by bike.
S2: I go to school by bus.
S3: I go to school by car.
T: If we go to Beijing, how will we go there?
S1: I can take a train.
S2: I can take a plane.
T: If you are in Beijing, how will you travel to some places?
S1: I will go there by taxi.
S2: I will go there by underground…
2. Compare different kinds of transportation.
T: We have known the different kinds of transportation. Then let’s talk about the transportation and finish the chart.
The Ss talk about them. Ask one student to fill in the chart.

3. Pair work
T: Let’s work in pairs. Please make up a dialogue to talk about the places of interest in Nanjing. These questions can help you.

Students talk about the questions in pairs. At last, ask one pair to present their work to the class.
4. Do Part B
T: Please open your books and turn to page 44. Look at Part B. Fill in the blank with the transport. Finish them in pairs. After that, I’ll ask students in a pair to compare your answer with another pair. Finally, I’ll ask students to take turns to read the sentences aloud to check the correct answers.
