Teaching procedures and ways 教学过程与方式 Step I Revision and lead in 1. Begin the class by talking about the trips. Sample: A: Do you like to go on a trip? B: Yes, I do. A: Where do you want to go? B: I want to go to Beijing. A: Why? B: Because Beijing is the most beautiful city in China. … 2. Check homework and lead in the new period. T: Yesterday, we learned how to state facts and how to express opinions. Have you finished five sentences which state facts and five sentences which express opinions? Ss: Yes. T: Let’s look at them. Would you please read them? Show the sentences on a slider. (1) The famous Harbour Bridge is in Australia. (fact) (2) I like to visit the Harbour Bridge in Australia. (opinion) (3) There are one thousand students in our school. (fact) (4) Our school is very beautiful. (opinion) … T: You did them very well. I’m very happy. My cousin from Britain will come to Dongguang. He will stay in Dongguang for only one day. But I have no idea about how to show him around. Who would like to help me? When you talk to students and ask some questions, you can write the route on the blackboard. If the route isn’t right, other students can correct them. Step II Brian is coming T: We talked about the trip route just now. What should we do before we start traveling in order to make good use of our time and money? S: We should make a plan for the trip. T: That’s right. OK. Let’s make a trip plan. How to make a plan for the trip? What should we consider when we make the plan? Ask students to say something about the trips and write them down. Travel: places, transportation, lunch, time, route, activities, cost, dates Step III Study Kitty’s plan T: You did good job. We have known that we have to consider so many things when we make a trip plan. There is Kitty and Daniel’s plan on page 53 of your textbook. Maybe it will help you make the plan. Now, please read the passage as quickly as you can and find out the main idea. After reading, ask students to answer some questions. Q1: How will they go to the centre of Beijing? Q2: What time will they get to the Palace Museum? Q3: What will they do in Beihai Park? Q4: How will they go to Tian’anmen Square? Q5: Where will they see the Monument to the People’s Heroes? Q6: What will they do in Wangfujing Street? Q7: What time will they go back to Sunshine Town by underground? The students can answer them easily. The teacher checks the answers. Step IV The steps to make a trip plan T: We have read Kitty and Daniel’s plan. Their plan is very excellent. Can you tell the class the steps to make a trip plan? You can answer them according to Part B on page 53. Check the answers on their own. Step V Make a plan for a day out T: We have learned Kitty and Daniel’s plan. We know the steps to make a trip plan, too. So I think it is easier now to make a plan for a day out. OK. Let’s work in groups of four and begin to make the plan according to Part A and Part B on page 53. I will ask some groups to report your work in front of the class in a few minutes. The following is a plan which a group finished. Time Place Activity 6:30 am No. 5 Middle School Meet everyone Take a bus to People Park 7:00 am——9:00 am People Park Go boating Play hide-and-seek Walk to South Lake Zoo 9:15 am——2:00 pm South Lake Zoo See some animals Have lunch Take the bus to the centre of shopping 2:30 pm——4:30 pm The centre of shopping Go shopping Take the bus to No. 5 Middle School 5:00 pm No. 5 Middle School Talk about the trip T: Thank you for your wonderful ideas. You have offered so good advice. Which plan do you think is the best? OK, let’s do ask-and-answer activities according to your plans and then choose the best plan from them. 以下为部分学生的回答内容 (1) — Why will you go to People Park? — Because People Park is the biggest park in Dongguang and it is beautiful, too. (2) — Why will you go boating in People Park? — Because boating is an interesting game and we like it very much, too. (4) — Why will you go to the centre of shopping? — Because there are a lot of shops there and we can buy something that we need. …… Step VI Practice Part C T: OK, we have finished the trip plan. But I think we also need to write an invitation letter. Then we can invite our classmates to go out on a trip. Now let’s go through Kitty and Daniel’s invitation letter first. Help them complete the letter. You can use the information from their plan in Part A on page 53. Ask students to complete it on their own. Then check the answers by reading the letter. T: You did very well. Let’s read the letter again and pay attention to the different parts of the letter. After reading, ask students to cover the prompts on the left. Ask them to match them with the corresponding parts in Kitty and Daniel’s letter. Ask a few students to tell the class the different parts of the letter according to the prompts on the left of the letter. Check the answers. T: Now, let’s write a letter to invite your classmates to go out on a trip. Use the plan you made in Step 5. After writing, ask some students to read out the passage that they write or show some samples on the screen. Correct some mistakes they may have in class. Step VII Homework T: Did you go out on a trip during this summer holiday? Ss: Yes. T: Then you can write an invitation letter according to the places that you visited.
