In fact, the cave is so large that it has its own weather system, with clouds and fog forming in the cave. The cave is so big that it could hold an entire New York City block, including skyscrapers. It was first discovered by a local man in 1991, but it was not fully explored until a team of British and Vietnamese scientists wenton an expedition in 2009. The team spent a week exploring the cave and using advanced technology to map it out. The cave is called Hang Son Doong, which means “Mountain River Cave”. It was formed 2-5 million years ago by the erosion of limestone 石(灰岩) caused by a river. The cave is home to a number of rare species, including the giant huntsman spider and the cave fish, which are both found nowhere else in the world. C Astronauts on the International Space Station (ISS) have grown a flower in space for the first time. The flower, a zinnia (黄菊), was grown as part of an experiment to study how plants grow in microgravity (微重力) environments. Growing plants in space is important for future space exploration, as plants could be used to provide fresh food and oxygen for astronauts. However, growing plants in space is difficult because of the lack of gravity, which can affect how plants absorb water and nutrients (营养物质). The experiment involved growing six zinnia plants in the Veggie facility on the ISS. The plants were grown under red, blue, and green LED lights, which provide the plants with the light they need to grow. The experiment was not without its challenges, as the plants initially suffered from high humidity (湿度) and low carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) levels, which caused them to develop mold (霉菌). However, the astronauts were able to save the plants by adjusting the environment and providing them with more carbon dioxide. The plants eventually bloomed, producing brightly colored flowers. What is the purpose of growing plants in space? A. To provide fresh food and oxygen for astronauts. B. To study the effects of microgravity on plants. C. To create a garden on the International Space Station. D. To test the limits of what is possible in space. What was the main challenge in growing the zinnia plants in space? A. The lack of light. B. The lack of water. C. The lack of nutrients. D. The lack of gravity. How did the astronauts solve the problem of mold on the zinnia plants? A. By providing more light. B. By providing more water. C.
