Read a poem about autumn and review Mid-Autumn Day. Mid-Autumn Day is a reunion for all the family members. 2. Through revision elicit the new words in this lesson. Such as: On Mid-Autumn Day, families will meet each other and we can hug to greet each other. We can have a family gathering. We enjoy a big meal together. We eat moon cakes as desserts. We have a conversation together. T-S S-S Motivate the Ss and lead in the new concept. Presentation and Practice Mid-Autumn Day is an important festival in autumn in China, and in western countries, they also have a big festival in autumn. Do you still remember what it is? It’s Thanksgiving Day. 1. When is Thanksgiving Day in the U.S.? 2. Do you know why they celebrate Thanksgiving Day? 3. How to celebrate Thanksgiving? Talk about the food for the dinner. Elicit the word “turkey”, and add something more. 4. Listen to Part I and answer: ①Where did Jenny go on Thanksgiving Day? ② How did they greet each other? ③What was grandmother doing then? 5. Read Part II and fill in the blanks. Whole class T-S individual work and pair work For the Ss to get some basic information about the topic. They are helpful for them to learn the main concept. Since the Ss have understood the main information of the text, let them do some vocabulary exercises. T-S Whole class For the Ss to learn the main concept better. After learning and understanding, give the Ss chances to use the language to do things. Consolidation Production Progress Through the vocabulary exercises, let the Ss know we need to thank everyone who has made us grateful. Elicit the final task for the Ss to do. Write a Thanksgiving card to your parents or friends. At last give the Ss chances to present. Individual work S-T Give the Ss chances to use the language they learnt in class and do something really happens in their life. To love is to give, not only receive. As we grow, we can show our love, too. We show our love every moment of every day. Make the Ss grateful in life. Homework 1. Better your Thanksgiving card and show it to your family or friends after school. 2. Finish the exercise book of this lesson. 3. Watch the movie Free Birds if you have time.
