The Teaching Plan for Lesson 4, Unit 8 in Go For It (1A)(P.50 Section B-2c)
Learning Objectives
(1) To learn & practice the new words and phrases: speech, contest, speech contest, party, birthday party, trip, school trip, basketball game.
(2) To learn and practice asking the date of events: When is your birthday party? My birthday is Oct. 5th. When is the basketball game? The basketball game is Oct. 2nd. When is the school trip? The school trip is Sept. 26t and 27th. When is the speech contest? The speech contest is Sept. 29th.
(3) To develop students' listening skills.
(4) To learn how make a appropriate schedule for themselves.
(5) To let students realize they should make a reasonable plan for their study.
Teaching Procedure
Stage 1 Revisions (6 minutes)
Step 1 Students say and spell the 12 months in chorus, and the teacher writes down on blackboard.
Step 2 Teacher asks "Which month is January?" to review the ordinal numbers (first, second, third, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, eleventh, twelfth.) and the principles of ordinal numbers.
Step 3 Teacher lists dates (Nov. 11th. Nov. 24th.) to review how to read date.
Stage 2 Pre-listening: the events happened around us (10 minutes)
Step 1 Teacher asks "What is Nov. 11th in our school?" and describes the events happened when celebrating in order to present the new phrases (School Day, speech contest)
Step 2 Teacher asks "Do you like school trip?" "Do you like NBA?" "What kind of game is NBA?" to presents the phrase: school trip, basketball game.
Step 3 Teacher describes what happened on her birthday to lead to birthday party.
Step 4 Students read the new phrases after the teacher.
Step 5 Students match the events with pictures in section B 1.
Stage 3 While-listen: Joe's calendar. (12 minutes)
Step 1 Students listen to the tape and check the events they hear in section B1.
Step 2 Listen again and students circle the dates they hear in Joe's calendar.

Step 3 Listen again and students choose the events on blackboard for each date.

Step 4 Looking at page 87, students read the conversation after the tape. And pay attention to the pronunciations.
Step 5 Role play: Boys act as Joe, girls Sally to practice the conversation.
Stage 4 Post-Listening: make a schedule for yourself. (10 minutes)
Step 1 Teacher makes her own schedule on blackboard. And then make a dialogue with students as a model.

Step 3 Students show their schedules and perform their dialogue.
Stage 5 Conclusion and homework(3 minutes)
Step 1 Students read the words and conversations after the teacher.
Step 2 Homework:
Let students make a study plan for themselves in order to be good for their study.
