Puppy love(早恋) may bring stress for young people and can lead to depression. The study shows that girls become more depressed than boys, and younger girls are the worst of all. The possible reason for the connection between love and higher risk of depression for girls is “loss of self”. According to the study, even though boys would say “lose themselves in a romantic relationship”, this “loss of self” is much more likely to lead to depression when it happens to girls. Young girls who have romantic relationships usually like hiding their feelings and opinions. They won't tell that to their parents. Dr Marianm Kaufman, an expert on young people problems, says 15% to 20% young people will have depression during their growing. Trying romance often causes the depression. She advises kids not to jump into romance too early. During growing up, it is important for young people to build strong friendships and a strong sense of self. She also suggests the parents should encourage their kids to keep close to their friends, attend more interesting school activities and spend enough time with family. Parents should watch for signs of depression—eating or mood changes—and if they see signs from their daughters or sons, they need to give help. The good news is that the connection between romance and depression seems to become weak with age. Love will always make us feel young, but only maturity gives us a chance to avoid its bad side effects. 1.What's the main idea of the passage? A.Puppy love may bring young people depression. B.Parents should forbid their children's love. C.Romance is a two-edged sword for adults. D.Romance is good for young people. 文章主要讲早恋可能导致青少年,尤其是女孩得抑郁症,且由第一段第二句 “Puppy love (早恋) may bring stress for young people and can lead to depression.” A。 2.Which of the following is more likely to have depression? A.Young people who have a strong sense of self. B.Young boys whose parents watch for their behavior. C.Young girls who always hide their feelings and opinions. D.Careless parents whose children are deep in love. C。 3.What can be inferred from the passage? A.Lacking love can lead young people to grow up more quickly. B.Early love makes young people keep close to their friends and parents. C.Parents should help their children to be aware of the signs of depression. D.The older a woman is, the less likely she seems to lose herself in romance. 由文章倒数第二句 “The good news is that the connection between romance and depression seems to become weak with age.” D。 4.What's the author's attitude towards puppy love? A.Confused. B.Disapproving. C.Disinterested. D.Scared. B。 B “Joe? Is that you?” The woman speaking to me at the baseball game looked a little familiar.“Marci?” I asked.“It is you!” she cried out, smiling broadly. “It's good to see you again!” It was good to see Marci, too. Off and on during the past few decades, I've wondered about her. I almost tried to search for her a few years ago after talking to a friend who had indicated that the 1990s had been pretty rough for Marci. So meeting her at the baseball game was really a surprise. We spent a few minutes talking about our lives—the good old, bad old days. Then Marci grew quiet for a moment. “You know, Joe,” she said, “I've always wanted to tell you how ... how ... sorry I am for the way I treated you. You must have been hurt both physically and mentally.” I was a little embarrassed. I turned and looked at her. “It's OK,” I said, “No big deal!” “But I was such a jerk,” she continued. Yes you were, I thought. “We were both pretty young,” I smiled. “I know,” she said. “It's just always bothered me, remembering how mean I was to you. And I've wanted to tell you that I'm sorry.” The expression on her face was warm and sincere. And there was something in her eyes—it looked a lot like relief. “OK,” I said. “Apology accepted!” Overcome by the sweetness of the moment, I reached an arm around her and gave her a quick hug. Just then, the crowd erupted with a huge cheer, and Marci and I both returned our attention to the game. By the time I looked over to where she had been, she was gone. But the warm, wonderful feeling of our brief exchange was still there, and continues to this day whenever I think about it. It isn't enough to just say “I'm sorry” and “You're forgiven”. But when those words are truly felt and sincerely expressed, they can open the door to miracles of the heart. Forgiveness can bring peace to an injured soul—even years after the fact. Even at a baseball game. 5.What kind of life did Marci live during the late 20th century according to the passage? A.Happy. B.Busy. C.Hard. D.Simple. 根据第二段第三句“I almost tried to search for her a few years ago after talking to a friend who had indicated that the 1990s had been pretty rough for Marci.” 6.What does the underlined word “jerk” in the third paragraph mean? A.A humorous person. B.A rude person. C.A careless person. D.An honest person. 根据画线词下文中的“It's just always bothered me, remembering how mean I was to you.” 7.Why did Marci look in relief after talking with the author? A.Because her favorite team won the game. B.Because she learned Joe was living a good life. C.Because she made an apology to the author. D.Because she found she was not mean any longer. 根据第三段第十三至十五句“‘And I've wanted to tell you that I'm sorry.’ The expression on her face was warm and sincere. And there was something in her eyes—it looked a lot like relief.” 8.What might be the best title for the passage? A.Excitement of a Baseball Game B.Mental Burden of a Woman C.Miracles of Forgiveness D.Relief of Finding a Friend 答案:C 标题判断题。 When I was eleven years old, I had a big accident. I get scared even now when I think about that time. I went_skating near my house. There were many people, and I saw some of them falling on the ice. It was my first time to go ice skating, so I was nervous. I was wondering how to skate. I went with a friend who was very skillful. He spent some time teaching me how to skate, but I didn't learn much. He left me and skated all around. As soon as he left, I fell_down. I envied the other people because they could skate_well. I was bored because I kept falling so I took off my skates and just walked around on the ice in my shoes. It was cold and my hands were frozen. Suddenly, I stepped on something that was not hard. What was it? It was a weak place in the ice. When I stepped there, I sank under the ice. I thought that I was going to die, but I did my best to grab something to get out from under the ice. I tried to grab the edge of the ice, but it was very difficult for an eleven-year-old kid. It seemed like a very long time, like a year. Then, fortunately,_someone helped me. He grabbed my arms and pulled me up. So, I lived and I'm still alive today. I thanked him. At that time, my friend came back. I was annoyed at him because he was supposed to take_care_of_me,_but he didn't. He was embarrassed. When I took a taxi home, the taxi driver was surprised and asked what had happened. I didn't want to say anything because I was tired and scared. Whenever_I_think_about_that_time,_I feel uncomfortable. I don't want to go skating again even now. Paragraph 1: It was long before I went skating once again, Paragraph 2: However, ever since then I haven't found any time to go skating, [精彩范文] Paragraph 1: It was long before I went skating once again, accompanied by one of my friends. This time I was careful and cautious, and my friend took special care of me. Fortunately this time I managed not to fall_down. Gradually I learned to skate_well and became skillful. I felt very confident and no longer scared. Paragraph 2: However, ever since then I haven't found any time to go skating, not because I do not like skating, but because I am too busy working. Whenever_I_think_about_that_time,_I find that I've learned a lot from these two skating experiences. We all have moments of desperation. But if we can face them bravely, we will find out how strong we really are. Whatever you do, you must have the patience to do it well. Remember: Never get too much pride because of victory or lose heart in case of failure. - 8 -
