One possible version:
People in some rural areas, especially in the remote mountainous areas, live in poverty and couldn’t afford to send their children to school. Set up in October 1989, the Hope Project has three purposes: to focus on children’s education, to assist drop-outs to return to school and to improve school conditions in poor area.
The Hope Project takes on an important role. With its assistance, many poor children’s fate has been transformed by acquiring knowledge from school. In addition, it has guided more people to value education in rural areas and promoted the education in the countryside.
The Hope Project is a worthwhile/worthy cause. But for it, it would be less likely for education to be available to many poor children. We also have our own parts to play. We can help collect money and do some donations to them, such as books and clothes. Small as these things may be, I believe that every little effort can make a difference on an individual level.

Text 1
M: Now it’s ten. When will you come back?
W: I’ll come back in half an hour.
Text 2
M: What are you going to do tonight? There’s a concert at the theater.
W: Tonight? Oh, I’m sorry. I’ll have a test tomorrow.
Text 3
W: What a nice painting! Do you know who painted it?
M: Of course I do. It was painted by a very famous artist.
Text 4
M: Hi, I’m Lucas. I just moved in next door.
W: Oh, hi, Lucas, come on in. I’m Barbara. Nice to meet you.
M: Nice to meet you, too.
Text 5
W: I think you’re supposed to turn left after the gas station with the blue sign.
M: Are you sure?
W: Yeah, if I’m reading this map correctly.
M: Well, it’s a little late for that now. We passed the gas station.
Text 6
W: What happened to your leg? Did you fall off your bike or something?
M: No, I hurt it playing football. Another player kicked my knee by accident, and I just crashed to the ground. It felt like I’d been shot!
W: Whoa. Did you see a doctor?
M: Yeah. Thankfully I won’t need an operation. I just need to wear this thing for one month. After that I’ll go back to the hospital for another check.
Text 7
M: If we’re going out to dinner tonight, make sure you get someone to watch kids. Otherwise, we’ll just stay home and watch a movie with them.
W: I’d really like to go out, so I’ll find out if Betsy can stay here with Matt and Liz. Betsy should be back from college by now. I think her break started yesterday.
M: Ok, good. I don’t mind staying home, though, if Betsy can’t come. I feel like we haven’t been spending enough time together as a family. Don’t you think so?
W: Well…I guess I don’t feel as strongly about it as you do, because I’m with the kids more often. But I see what you mean.
Text 8
M: Where should we go for our big vacation next year?
W: We’re going to go on a boat tour of some cities along the West Coast of America.
M: You sound like the decision has already been made.
W: It has. I already talked with the travel agent and booked some tickets for the two of us.
We will go for two weeks in June.
M: Why didn’t you ask me about it before you bought the tickets?
W: I know how you are…You’ll say you want to go somewhere local—at least somewhere in the
UK. But I want to go overseas for a change! I hope you aren’t angry.
M: Nah. I think it’ll be a great trip.
Text 9
M: Bye! I’m off to watch the Manny Pacquiao fight at Dave’s.
W: Why do you like that violent sport?
M: It’s so exciting! You should watch a boxing match with me sometime and find out for yourself.
W: It’s just a couple of guys beating each other up.
M: Well, it’s done in a skillful way. And boxers are more than just people who fight. Manny is
from the Philippines, and he’s a hero there. You know the Philippines just had that awful
typhoon, right? It’s a big mess there. More than five thousand people died.
W: What does that have to do with boxing?
M: Well, Manny was about to retire from boxing. But he decided to fight against one of the best
boxers in the world, and he won! He said his victory was for his people in the Philippines.
Thousands of them had been watching, especially in the city where the most people died.
Manny gave them hope again.

Many schools across the U.S. hold graduation ceremonies this time of year. 70-year-old Jerry Reid just graduated from the University of Virginia. Mr. Reid might not look like other students, his hair is definitely grayer. But Jerry Reid’s age is easy to forget, he is just an average college student to his school friends.
Mr. Reid joined a group that cheers loudly for the school at sports events. And he also joined a men’s group on campus. Mr. Reid’s school friends say they can talk to him just about anything.
About a half century ago, in his 20s, Jerry Reid’s friend Bill invited him to the University of Virginia. Jerry Reid says it took him 48 years to take that advice. In 2011, he entered college. Professor Wright says Mr. Reid influences students. He opened the minds of the young adults and showed them that life does not end at 40. Instead, the 70-year-old college graduate believes that getting older can be the beginning of a dream.
