I waited in the line at the Starbucks counter while he shopped around to pick up a few things. As I was starting there I become aware of an elderly women, with untidy hair, wearing layers upon layers of old clothing, hunchbacked (弯背的) behind me in line. She had a few things for washing and seemed to want the Starbucks cashier to ring up(记账)since that queue was shorter than the queues in the store. At some point I became aware of her edging (渐渐挪动) closer behind me — closer than I was comfortable with! I instinctively (本能地) placed a hand over my purse and drew it close to me. My fear and imagination raced creating wild stories about this homeless woman who might try to steal from me. Then it was my turn to order. As the cashier rang my total, I discovered I was 67 cents short. I called my father but he was hard of hearing. He asked me to repeat what I said but he still couldn't make me out. At that point, a long, grey arm, with holes in its sleeves, reached over from behind me. She laid 67 cents out on the counter, saying, “Here, we all need some help sometimes.” I was stunned! Here was a woman who clearly had very little to give and was in great need herself. I had judged her wrongly and she had offered to reach out to help me! What an amazing gift and lesson this woman gave me about judging others! Thank you, God! 1.From the passage, we can learn that the elderly woman ________. They say that because of the Internet and other new technology (技术), there is no longer any need for school buildings, classes or teachers. Perhaps this will be true one day, but if the world has no schools, I can't imagine what our society will be like.In fact, we should learn how to use new technology to make schools better. We should invent a new kind of school that is linked (连接) to libraries, museums, science centres, labs and even companies.Technological companies should create (制造) learning programs for schools. Therefore, scientists could give talks through the Internet.TV networks and local (本地的) stations could develop programs about things students are studying in school.Labs could set up websites to show new technology so students could see it on the Internet. Is this a dream? No. There are already many cities where this is beginning to happen. Here the whole city is linked to the Internet, and learning can take place at home, at school, and in the office.Businesses provide programs for the schools and the society. The schools provide computer labs for people without their own computers at home. Because everyone can go on the Internet, older people use it as much as younger ones, and everyone can visit faraway libraries and museums as easily as nearby ones. How will this new kind of schools change the usual way of learning? It is too early to be sure, but it is very exciting to think about it. Technology will change the way we learn;schools will change as well; and we will all learn something from the Internet. 5.Why do some people think schools will no longer be necessary? A. Because people can learn through the Internet and other technology. B. Because more and more students don't want to go to school. C. Because the population of the world is getting smaller. D. Because fewer and fewer people want to be teachers any more. 6.The writer thinks that ________. A. we should not train any teachers in the future B. we should use new technology to make schools better C. we should build up more new school buildings D. we should help the students learn to use the Internet 答案与解析 B 第一段有这样一句话:“In fact,we should learn how to use new technology to make schools better.” 7.What does the writer think technological companies should do? A. They should invite more scientists to give talks to students. B. They should build up more museums for school children. C. They should create learning programs for schools. D. They should build up more labs for school students. 答案与解析 C 依据第一段的:“Technological companies should create(制造)learning programs for schools.” 8.In the future, learning can take place at the following places EXCEPT ________. A. at home B. at school C. in the office D. in the open 9.The second paragraph mainly tells us ________. A. our life will be much different in the future B. learning will be much different in the future C. our life will be more comfortable in the future D. no one is sure what our life will be like in the future
