21.(6分)Researchers say public mistrust of vaccines(疫苗)is causing diseases like measles(麻疹)and yellow fever to spread. The scientists said the lower levels of trust can lead to people refusing vaccines. This, in turn, can cause diseases to spread quickly, they warmed.
But the researchers said they also found a high level of support worldwide for vaccinating children against disease.
The researchers questioned 66,000 people in 67 countries to discover their ideas on whether vaccines are important, safe and effective. The survey showed people in Southeast Asia had the highest level of trust in vaccines. Africa showed the second highest level of confidence. Europeans showed the lowest level of confidence in vaccines. In France, 41 percent of the population questioned the safety of vaccines.
Heidi Larson is with the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. She says recent media reports of problems involving vaccines have hurt public confidence in France. Larson noted that many Europeans worried about reports of possible links between hepatitis B vaccines(乙型肝炎疫苗)and the disease multiple sclerosis(多发性硬化症). But she said scientists found no linkage between the two. Mistrust in France was also driven by public reaction to the H1N1 influenza(甲型H1N1流感)outbreak fears in 2009. The French government spent $1.4 billion on 94 million doses of the vaccine. The majority were sold or destroyed.
The findings come as a major yellow fever vaccination program has been launched in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Angola. The disease has already killed hundreds of people in the area. The World Health Organization aims to vaccinate over 15 million people in both countries. “If everyone agrees to be vaccinated, we can remove yellow fever from our country,” said Mosala Mireille, one of the doctors directing the program.

A.Expectant B.Skeptical
C.Critical D.Cautious
22.(8分) Last week, Vodafone started a test of the UK’s first full 5G service, available for use by businesses in Salford. It is part of its plan to trial the technology in seven UK cities. But what can we expect from the next generation of mobile technology?
One thing we will see in the preparation for the test is lots of tricks with the new tech. Earlier this year, operators paid almost £1.4 billion for the 5G wavelengths, and to compensate for that cash, they will need to catch the eye of consumers. In September, Vodafone used its bit of the range to display the UK’s first hologram (全息) call. The Manchester City captain Steph Houghton appeared as a hologram in Newbury. It isn’t all holograms, however: 5G will offer faster internet access. with Ofcom (英国通讯管理局) suggesting that video that takes a minute to download on 4G will be available in just a second.
The wider application is to support connected equipment on the “internet of things” -not just the internet-enabled fridge that can reorder your milk for you, but the network that will enable driverless cars and delivery drones (无人机) to communicate with each other.
Prof William Webb has warned that the technology could be a case of the emperor’s new clothes. Much of the speed increase, he claims, could have been achieved by putting more money in the 4G network, rather than a new technology. Other different voices have suggested that a focus on rolling out wider rural broadband access and addressing current network coverage would be more beneficial to the UK as a whole.
Obviously, 5G will also bring a cost to consumers. It requires a handset for both 5G and 4G, and the first 5G-enabled smart phones are expected in the coming year. With the slow pace of network rollout so far, it is likely that consumers will end up upgrading to a new 5G phone well before 5G becomes widely available in the next couple of years.
1、Why does Prof William Webb say “the technology could be a case of the emperor’s new clothes”?
A.He is in favor of the application of the new technology.
B.5G will bring a cost to consumers in their daily life.
C.5G helps people communicate better with each other.
D.He prefers more money to be spent on 4G networks.
2、The underlined word “addressing” in the fourth paragraph has the closest meaning to .
A.making a speech to B.trying to solve
C.managing to decrease D.responding to
3、The last paragraph indicates that .
A.it’ll take several years to make 5G accessible to the public in the UK
B.5G service shows huge development potential and a broad market
C.customers are eager to use 5G smart phones instead of 4G ones
D.it’s probable that 5G network rollout is speeding up in Britain
4、What do we know about the text?
A.Vodafone is successful in spreading the 5G service.
B.Steph Houghton appeared as a hologram by 4G .
C.The application of 5G will make life much easier.
D.5G phones are available in rural areas of the UK.
23.(8分)The Art of Travel Photography Course on DVD
$99.95 $29.95
Most of us wouldn’t dream of travelling without bringing a camera along. Photographs not only let us share our experiences with others, but they preserve once-in-a-lifetime moments precisely the way we want to remember them.
Yet all too often, we find that our photos fall short of our expectations. And our dull results are made all the more disappointing by the knowledge that we may never return to the pictured locale. We’ve all learned how difficult it can be to capture (捕捉) the magic of the moment.
But by understanding some basic photographic principles and best practices, you can develop your photographer’s eye and produce pictures that reach their full potential.
The Art of Travel Photography is your ticket to capturing the beauty and awe of any scene, anywhere in the world. Your guide is Joel Sartore, National Geographic contributing photographer with more than 30 years of experience who has travelled the world shooting photographs in the most challenging of conditions. Filled with practical tips and proven techniques, this course helps you learn to see the way professional photographers do so you can take compelling photographs worth framing and sharing.

24.(8分) We’ve been covering standing desks for a long time now because experts agree that sitting all day is killing us. We want to be productive while also keeping our bodies healthy. Over the years, there have been several solutions to this from fixed standing desks to adjustable ones, portable desks to ones that change into shelves.
However, the most high tech and elegant solution has to be this new smart desk called The Stir Kinetic Desk. The desk learns your daily behaviors and moves between a sitting and standing height regularly throughout the day to keep you moving without interrupting your work flow.
You can program specific sitting and standing intervals or let the desk set the schedule. If you tend to sit while returning emails in the morning, but always want to stand during that afternoon conference call, the desk will learn those regular habits and adjust the schedule to fit them. Of course, the desk can always be manually lowered or raised by using the touch screen on the lower left comer of the desk.
When switching positions, the desk gently dips and rises to let you know that a change is coming up. If you’ re not ready to switch positions at that time, you can tap the touchscreen to stay sitting or standing for a while longer.
The built-in touchscreen also keeps track of your daily sitting and standing times and tells you how many calories you’ve burned. You can even set goals for how long or often you want to stand. The desk also works with fitness devices like the FitBit to track your movements.
All of that smart tech doesn’t come cheap though. The M1 desk, which is the everyday model, runs a steep $2, 990, while the more executive model with added features, the F1, goes for $4, 190.
While expensive, it’s worth thinking of how much time we spend at our desks. Much like a good mattress(床垫), a good desk that works with you is worth the investment. Hopefully in a few years these smart, integrated desks will be more common and less expensive.
1、The Stir Kinetic Desk has been designed to_______.
A.help users with their work B.keep users moving all the time
C.get users to exercise while working D.remind users of their working schedule
2、Which is the feature of the touchscreen of the desk?
A.It can tell users when to change positions. B.It can track users’ changes of positions.
C.It can keep users in a fixed position. D.It can detect users’ health condition.
3、Which of the following can best describe the desk?
A.Productive but challenging. B.Convenient but unaffordable.
C.Complex and impractical. D.Multi-functional and intelligent.
4、What does the author intend to tell us in the last paragraph
A.To spend money on such a desk is rewarding.
B.We should get such a desk as soon as possible.
C.It won’t be long before the desk is widely used.
D.Desks play a very important role in our daily life.
