一、one和ones都用于泛指，ones是one的复数形式。有时二者前有冠词和形容词。不定冠词a和an表示数量“一”，a/an…one仍表示泛指。如a red one.
One=a+可数名词单数或a/an + adj +可数名词单数；ones用来代替前面提到的可数名词复数。
二者前有定冠词the时，均表示特指，且the one，the ones后面常有定语修饰，他们和前面提到的名词是同类异物的关系。
1.I lost my pen yesterday. I will buy one.（one代a pen）
2.My child doesn't like this book．Show her a more interesting one．（one代book）
3.I do not like green apples. I like red ones.（ones代apples）
4.Our new bike is more expensive than the one we had before.（the one代the bike，后有从句we had before修饰）
5.The spoon and the bowl closest to your plate are a little bit bigger than the ones beside them.（你盘子附近的羹匙和碗比它们旁边的羹匙和碗大）

二、that表特指 代替前面提到的“the+不可数名词”也可代替前面提到的“the+可数名词单数”（that也可替代不可数名词，但是 the one则不能）。that和the one表示特指，后面常有定语修饰，他们和前面提到的名词是同类异物关系。That还可用作主语代前面整个句子内容。
1.The weather in Beijing is as good as that in Tianjin.（that代the weather，后有介词短语in Tianjin修饰）
2.The book is not so interesting as that/the one I bought last week.（that/the one代the book，后有从句I bought last week修饰）
3.I had a bad cold. That is why I did not come.（that代I had a bad cold）
注：代替前面提到的“the+可数名词单数时，如果后面有OF后置定语，则只用that不用 the one

三。those表示特指。代前面出现的可数名词复数，避免重复，后常有定语修饰，可与the ones通用。
如果后面有OF后置定语，则只用those不用 the ones
The houses of the rich are generally larger than those of the poor.
that作替代词，只能指物，不能指人。those作替代词，既可指物，也可指人。例：
The blonde girl I saw was older than the one you were dancing with．（该句中的the one不能换成that）
