1. To read a passage about Auckland and know more about it.
2. To learn some words and phrases: locate, central, seaside, settle, volcano, harbour, sunshine, surfing, be known as.
Ability aims:
1. To develop strategies to match topics with paragraphs.
2. To identify important words in a text .
Emotional aim:
To help Ss know more about their hometown and give themselves a sense of pride.

To train Ss’ reading ability and learn about Auckland
Teaching difficult point:
To help Ss introduce Auckland to the tourists.
Teaching aid: Multi-media.
Teaching procedures:
Step I. Greetings
Greet the whole class as usual.
Step II. Review
Review some information about New Zealand.
Q: How much do you know about New Zealand?
Step III. Lead- in
Questions:
1. Do you want to visit New Zealand?
2. What do we need if we go there?
3. Can you go there in several seconds? (Virtual Tourism)
Step IV. Pre-reading
Look at the photos and guess a few things about Auckland.
Step V. Reading.
Task 1: Listen to the text and check their guesses .
While checking, help Ss learn some new words and phrases.
Task 2: Read the passage quickly and match the topics a-f with the five paragraphs in the text with the help of “Reading Strategies”.

Task 3: Read the passage carefully and complete the table.

Step VI. Role-play (group work)
Introduce Auckland to the tourists.
Divide the students into groups of four. One acts as a guide, while the other three act as tourists. The tourists can ask any questions about Auckland.
Role A: a guide Role B-D: tourists
Step VII. Discussion
Ask Ss to talk about our hometown.
Step VIII. Summary & Homework
Homework: Surf the Internet for more information about our hometown and write a short passage.
