Teaching Procedure:
Step1. Lead in by discussing the following questions:
Which of these would you most like to have: a car, a house or a good job?
Do you think a good education is important? Why or why not?
Discuss the questions in groups. Divide the class into groups of three or four to finish the task. After several minutes, let some students come to front to make a report.
Step2. Listen to the tape and answer the following questions:
1. What does Jack Hall look like?
2. Might Danny be an astronaut?
Finish the task in class in oral.
Step3. Read the text and answer the following questions:
1. How long did they talk?
2. Why can’t Danny be an astronaut?
3. Did Jack Hall give Danny good advice?
Finish the task in class in oral.
Step4. Read the text again and let the students retell the story in their own words. Don’t read the text. Let them sum the main idea of the text.
Ask some students to speak in front of the class.
Step5. Do with the language points:
Make sentences with the following expressions:
Practice the adverbial clauses with the words and expressions: before, when, after; even if
S1: I do some cleaning before I do my homework at night.
S2: When I come into the classroom, I see Li Ming is reading loudly.
S3: What do you want to be after you graduate from high school?
S4: I will go to school even if it rains.
Step6. Come to “LET’S DO IT’.
Work in groups to finish the task. Write in your diary about your parents’ jobs. Write your ideas in your diary.
Do you want to do the same job as your parents? Why? Do they want you to have the same job? Why? Share your ideas with your group members.

Summary:
Diary is an important style to practice the students’ written abilities. Jobs are popular subjects in our life. Do our goals match our interests? We should think carefully. In order to suit the society, we must work hard to learn all the subjects well.
