Teaching steps:
Step 1 Lead in
Show some nice pictures to the students then asks them, “Do you want to go there?” Possible answer is “Yes”
T: (teacher) Most of students want to go there. But how do you get there?
Possible answer: take the plane; take the bus; ride the bike and so on
T: Yes, we need bus, bike, plane and so on. They are all transportation. They are important for us. So, today, let’s talk about the transportation.
Step 2: Introduce some kinds of transportation.
Show some pictures of transportation
First ask students to tell what they see, using whatever words they can. The teacher gives some encourage evaluation to students’ answers.
Then teacher supplies the words or sentences and ask the class to repeat.
e.g. T He rides the bike to work.
They walk to some place.
Step 3 Introduce language goals
First play a game: let students guess
how the teacher gets to school, how far it is from the teacher’s home to school. And how long it takes.
Then the teacher asks these questions and students try to give the right answer one by one. At the same time the teacher write the questions and answers on the blackboard
The teacher gives some encourage evaluation to students’ answers.

Step 4: Ask and answer in pairs
Show students some pictures. Ask student to ask and answer in pairs using the information in the pictures. Then ask some pairs to present their conversations in front of the class.

First, ask these questions each other, and then write down the answers in the chart. Finally, ask some students to make a report.
Step 6: Listening
Ask students to listen to the tape carefully. Then fill in the blanks.

Step 7: Fast reading
Lin Fei’s home is about 10 kilometers from school. He gets up at six o’clock every day, showers, and has a quick breakfast. Then he leaves for school at around six-thirty. First, he rides his bicycle to the bus station. That takes about ten minutes. Then the early bus takes him to school. The bus ride usually takes about 25 minutes.

Show students the short passage, then ask students to read the passage quickly. Try to find the answers and write them down.
Finally, check the answers quickly.
Step 8 pairwork
Show students a picture, tells them that Jim is an exchange student in Xi’an, he doesn’t know how to get to Bell Tower. Please help him.
Ask students to look at the pictures and make their conversations in pairs.
A few minutes later, ask some pairs to act out their conversations
