II. Teaching materials analyzing and rearranging教材分析和重组
1.教材分析
本单元以Birdwatchers的身份出现,围绕birdwathching这一中心话题展开,学习巩固运用一般现在时态,be going to do结构和现在正在进行时态,来谈计划、打算等项活动。从认识鸟类,了解Zhalong湿地,加入birdwatching club,邀朋友参加各类户外活动,逐层深入走进大自然。话题独具匠心,师生活动自然有趣,激励学生走近大自然,研究自然,热爱自然,保护大自然。
1.1 Comic strip是本单元一个warm-up,通过一段幽默有趣的对话和有趣的图片,提出what is birdwatching?的讨论话题,是一项娱乐活动,还是一项捕猎活动?Duck和chicken都属于鸟类吗?学生的探究意识由此引发,教师可顺势引导,组织讨论,为下一课时做好准备。
1.2 Welcome to the unit是本单元的导入单元。学生在了解了birdwatching和birds后,急于想知道鸟的各种名字,体形特征,于是教师帮助,出示图片,认识各种类,识别鸟的外形特征,进行语言表述和描述,从识字、认词到组句、描述。最后进行B项对话,教学自然天成。
1.3 Reading是本单元的中心课——阅读课。这篇课文介绍Zhalong,这一特殊地区是an ideal home for different kinds of fish, plants and birds,尤其是the rare red-crowned cranes(丹顶鹤)的理想栖息地。文章可通过精度和泛读相结合的方式进行处理。文章后B1B2和C1C2设置了词汇巩固和文章细节理解的考察练习。
1.4 Vocabulary是本单元词汇学习拓展课。学习了解英语形容词前缀构词法,即在形容词前加dis-, im-, in-, ir-, un-构成否定意义的形容词。可通过读写记忆和运用新词汇采用否定解词法复述课文内容加以巩固,一举两得,相得益彰。
1.5 Grammar是语法课。要求学生掌握英语中最基本的五个简单句的结构和成份功能,同时在B项中,学习巩固课文中出现用一般现在时态来表达未来活动的时态用法。最后C项中安排了表行为方式副词的构成和运用练习。建议以本为本,不宜涉及太多课外这种词汇的练习,以夯实课本中内容基础。
1.6 Integrated skills是本单元综合技能课。主要是围绕课文内容强化听、说整合训练和能力提升。A项内容通过听力Facts about Zhalong让学生重复湿地、面积、丹顶鹤、世界湿地日等信息,然后重复听力,进行补写词汇来巩固课文。B项内容进行Speak up,紧紧围绕go birdwatching这一话题复习一般现在时态表将来这一用法,涉及birdwatching的时间、内容、地点等计划安排事宜,进行强化能力训练。
1.7 Study skills是一节学习技巧技能课。旨在了解日常生活中英文缩略词及运用缩略符号来快速做笔记的技能训练,从日常计量单位、日期等缩略的基本知识入手,也是提高听力笔录的行之有效的一种方法。
1.8 Main task是本单元的写作课。有填写申请表格入手,到应用文申请书的基本写作要求,从格式到内容,贴近生活。
1.9 Check out是本单元复习课。归纳巩固用一般现在时态来表将来计划的时态用法,然后通过字谜游戏的形式,巩固所学词汇。当然,教师也可就本单元重点内容进行设计其他练习加以巩固本单元所学内容。

Step I Warm-up (Comic reading)
This activity leads to the topic in this unit and introduces some new vocabulary. Show some pictures of birds, which you draw or cut from picture books.
T: Do you like birds?
Ss: Yes.
T: Do you like to get close to nature to watch birds?
S1: Yes, in spring my father and I usually go outdoors to watch birds in the forest near my home. There are different kinds of birds. It is fun to watch them and even hear them sing beautifully.
T: Very good, today we are going to learn Unit 5 Birdwatchers.
Write Birdwatchers on the Bb. And ask Ss to turn to page 74.
T: Look at the four pictures and listen to the dialogue between the two lovely dogs.
Look and listen, then Teacher asks Ss some questions about the dialogue.
T: What is Eddie going to do tomorrow?
S1: He is going birdwatching at the market.
T: Why is he going birdwatching at the market instead of in the field?
S2: Because he wants to eat Beijing Duck and roast chicken.
T: Why?
S2: They are yummy and delicious.
T: Does Eddie understand what birdwatching means?
S3: No, not at all.
T: Who knows what birdwatching really means?
S4: His partner knows. You can see in picture 4 that his partner is laughing at Eddie.
T: It’s very funny. You are bright and clever. As we know, birdwatching is just an activity like boating, swimming and so on. At the same time, birdwatchers watch birds not for food to eat, but for pleasure or other purposes.
Discuss the question in pairs. Why do people watch birds?
Step II Presentation
This activity presents the new vocabulary in this period.
T: Now I’d like to read my poem to you. Listen to me.
When you are unhappy, you’d better go to the fields,
to get fresh air, take exercise, and watch birds.
When you are sad, remember to go into the forests,
to hear birds sing, to make you easy and nice.
When you are feeling bad, don’t forget to get close to nature,
you can watch birds at green hills, parks, or wetlands.
Now, at first let us get close to nature and know about birds and make friends with them.
Teacher shows some pictures of birds and lets Ss remember their names and then describe them

It even can say what you say.

Teacher can describe the bird, using a picture, then asks a student to speak out the name. a student can speak out the name of a bird, then other student can guess at it and describe it.
Step V Consolidation
Let Ss take turns to say their favorite birds and give reasons.

S1: What’s your favorite bird?
S2: Guess! A seabird. It is large and graceful and it has long neck and white feathers.
S1: Swan.
T: Well done.

S1: Which bird do you like better, a golden eagle or a swan?
S2: I like swan better.
S1: Why?
S2: Because it has graceful manner and white feather, and it looks nice.
Practice these dialogues before the class and Teacher gives them a hand if it is necessary.
