8A Unit Three Grammar(I) 教案 Teaching objectives ● To figure out the usage of ‘to’-infinitives ● To learn to use reflexive pronouns Important and difficult points ● To use ‘to’ -infinitives and reflexive pronouns correctly. Teaching aids ● A small blackboard and some pictures Teaching procedures Step 1 Check homework(I) Read and recite the following words and phrases sunset possible themselves itself rock hide-and-seek wonder climber lucky luckily gon on a trip to South Hill Thank sb for doing sth sit at the front of the bus watch the sunset take photos climb the rocks play hide-and-seek keep secrets have a good time Step 2 Warm up Remind the students of the topic ‘A day out’. Then lead in the grammar item through revising. Q: Why did Linda go to the World Park? Possible answers: 1. Kitty’s teacher Mr. Wu invited Linda to join in their school trip to the World Park. (invite sb. to do sth.) 2. Linda wanted to visit the park. (want to do) 3. Linda hoped to see places of interest from all over the world. (hope to do) (Ask and answer. Point out ‘to’ infinitives.) Step3 Check homework(II) and present the ‘to’infinitive instructures on the small blackboard. prepare to do sth agree to do sth plan to do sth want to do choose to do sth decide to do sth hope to do (Teach the words like ‘decide’, ‘agree’ and ‘choose’. Get students to read the structures aloud till they can speak it correctly and fluently.) Step4 Get the students to do the following exercises(books closed). Help the students to feel that ‘to’-infinitive is usually used to talk about things that haven’t happened yet. Help the students to focus on the verbs that ‘to’-infinitives usually go with. 1. Kitty plans _to take (take) Linda out. (plan to do sth.) 2. Linda wanted to visit__ (visit) the park.(want to do sth.) 3. Helen agrees __to go_ (go) with them.(agree to do sth.) 4. Millie decided __to stay_ (stay) at home.(decide to do sth.) 5. Mr Black chose to work__ (work) on the farm.(choose to do sth) Step 5 Give a summary In fact, students have learned a lot of ‘to’-infinitive structures. So here comes the chance to give a summary to it. Ask each group to name as many structures as they can. Possible structures:: agree to do sth. 同意做某事 like to do sth. 喜欢做某事 begin to do sth. 开始做某事 love to do sth. 喜爱做某事. start to do sth. 开始做某事 stop to do sth. 停下来做某事 choose to do sth. 选择做某事 learn to do sth 学习(会)做某事 can’t wait to do sth. 迫不及待做某事 prepare to do sth 准备做某事 plan to do sth.. 计划做某事 forget to do sth. 忘记去做某事 decide to do sth. 决定做某事 remember to do sth. 记住要去做某事 fail to do sth. 失败(没能)做某事 hate to do sth. 痛恨做某事 want to do sth 想要做某事 would like to do sth 想要做某事 hope to do sth. try to do sth. (A competition can be held here. After a discussion in groups, Invite the students to write down the structures on the blackboard.The group who names the most wins the game. ) Ask students to read these structures. Step6 Check the dialogue on Page 48. Then do some additional exercises to help check if they have grasped it or not. Fill in the blanks with the suitable verb in its correct form. arrive / buy / let / stay / travel / be / go / see/ take/ visit A: Please tell Jack that my parents agree______ him stay with us. I hope___2____ him at the airport. B: Thank you for allowing Jack ___3____ with your family. He plans _____4____ in Beijing on18th Dec. He seems(似乎)___5___ very excited about the trip. He’d like___6____many places but you don’t have to take him everywhere. He’ll learn ____7____by himself. A. I want ____8_____ to some places, too. B. Don’t forget ____9_____ Jack to Wangfujing Street then. He wants ___10____ some presents for his friends. (Keys:1.to let 2. to see 3. to stay 4. to arrive 5. to be 6. to visit 7. to travel 8. to go 9. to take 10. to buy) Step 7 Work out the rule We use ‘to’ -infinitives after verbs such as ‘want” and ‘hope’. But pay attention! We don’t use ‘to’-infinitives all the time. Sometimes we leave out ‘to’ and sometimes we use a gerund. For example: 1. The teacher lets him __________ (read) the new words. 2. The story makes the children ____________ (laugh). 3. She often helps Mrs Sun _____________ (carry) water. 4. You should practise _____________ (speak) more often. 5. Tommy enjoys_____________ (ski). (Keys:1. read 2. laugh 3. (to) carry 4. speaking 5. skiing) (If time permits , invite the students to think of more verbs like these:see,watch,hear,.) Step 8 Show some pictures and lead in the grammar item through conversation. T: Well! Next I would like to show you some pictures. Are they happy? S: Yes. They enjoyed themselves. T: Where can we see the photos? S: On Daniel’s home page. T: Who taught Daniel to make home pages? S. Nobody. He taught himself. Get the students to talk about the pictures above. Then elicit the sentences ‘They enjoyed themselves.’ and ‘He taught himself.’ Get the students to feel the differences between the following sentences: He taught himself. (‘He’ and ‘Himself’ is the same person.) He taught him. (‘He’ is one person. ‘Him’ is another. ) In this way, we can help the students to understand that we use reflexive pronouns when the subject and the object are the same person. Step 9 Check homework (IV)---Spellings of reflexive pronouns Get the students to focus on the spelling of reflexive pronouns. Singular Plural The First Person myself ourselves The Second Person yourself yourselves The Third Person himself themselves herself itself Check the exercises on Page 49. Get the students to read and act out the dialogue. Step 10 Other ways to use reflexive pronouns Well, of course, there are also many other ways to use reflexive pronouns. For stronger class, it is good for the teacher to do some summary here. 1) 作表语 Tom is not quite himself today. 汤姆今天身体不好。 2) 作宾语 He cut himself. 他割伤了自己。 Be careful, or you will hurt yourself. 小心, 否则你会伤着自己。 He is old enough to look after himself. 3) 作同位语 Helen herself cooked the meal yesterday. 海伦自己烧了饭。 You may go and ask the teacher himself. 你可以去问老师本人. 习惯用法 Help yourself /yourselves to sth! 你(们)随便吃(某物)! Step 11 Do some additional exercises to check how the students grasp it. Fill in the blanks with the suitable reflexive pronouns. 1. Don’t tell me the answer. I’ll work out the problem__________. 2. She is too young to look after__________. 3. Help___________ to some meat, Jack. 4. Lei Feng was always ready to help others, he never thought of________. 5. It’s a new knife. Be careful not to cut _________. 6. It’s easy, so you should learn how to teach ____________. 7. I didn’t do it for them. They did it ___________. 8.
