Lesson47 Good Manners   Title Lesson47 Good Manners Teaching aims Knowledge To review the usage of imperative sentence. Ability To learn about how to give suggestions about being a good host and a polite guest. Emotion To realize the importance and necessity of good manners. Project Content Aims Teaching procedures Step1: Lead-in and warm up Greetings 1. Show a proverb: Manners make the man. Explain it and tell the importance of manners. 2. Show some pictures of good manners and bad manners. Ask the students to tell if it is good or bad. 3. T: Li Ming invites his Australian pen pal for dinner at his home, but he doesn’t know how to be a good host. Let’s help him. Motivate the Ss and let them know it is important to have good manners. Step2: Reading (the left part: How to be a good host?) 1. Have a discussion first and then share their ideas. 2. Fast reading: ① Read the tips from Mr. Manners. ② Put all the tips in the right order in groups.(Have a competition) Ask the winner team to read the tips one by one. 3. Specific reading: Read the left part and fill in the form. What should he do? What shouldn’t he do? 1. 2. 3. 4. 1. 2. Motivate the students through the discussion and the competition Let them know more about the good manners of treating a guest especially the steps. Step3: Listening (the right part: How to be a polite guest?) 1. Listen to Mr. Manners' tips for Dong Fang and answer the following questions. ① What gift can she bring? ② What should she do after her visit? 2. Listen and fill in the blanks. ① Bring a small gift, such as sweets or flowers. ② ________ the rules of your host's home. Do what your host asks you to do. ③ Don't be _______, especially at bedtime. ④ Offer to help __________ the dinner. ⑤ Write a __________ note after your visit. 3. Listen and follow the tape. 4. Extensive thinking: More advice for being a polite guest More advice about paying a visit to a friend’s house ① Make an appointment(预约) before you go. ② Be on time and greet members in the order of age. ③ Ask if you should take shoes off before you walk into the house. ④ Don’t seat yourself before the host tells you where to sit. Deal with the second part and test the students’ listening ability and make the students understand the text better. To let the students get to know more about how to be a polite guest. Step 4: Practice ①Act it out: Imagine that a Canadian friend comes to visit your house. What should you do to make him or her feel comfortable? Make up a dialogue with your partner and act it out! ②How polite are you? Divide the students into six groups. Give the students six tasks and ask each group to choose a task. Then according to the task, the group members discuss it and give the advice, write down the advice and present it. Step 5: Summary 1. Ask some students to talk about the importance of good manners. Encourage them to be a person with good manners, no matter what they do and where they go. 2. Enjoy a song: So we can be friends To test their ability of using the tips about being a good host and a polite guest. To test their ability of solving problems. Emotion promotion. Home- work 1. Do Exercise 2 on Page123. 2. Make a poster about good manners. 3. Preview next lesson.
