Teaching procedures
Step 1 Presenting
1. (Show some pictures of famous places in Nanjing.) Do you know these places? Do you like them? Where are these places of attraction? Yes, they are in Nanjing. Do you know when it is open? What can you do there? What do you like most about it? (Encourage Ss to answer using what they have learned according to the fact.)
2. When I am free, I like traveling. For example, Beijing is a good place to visit. Have you ever been to the Palace Museum? (Show a picture of the Palace Museum.)This is the Palace Museum. There are different palaces there, such as The Taihe Palace, Zhonghe Palace, Baohe Palace, Huangji palace, and Fengxian palace. (Write the names of palace on the Bb.)
3. There are many beautiful things to see in the Palace Museum. We can see some old things, such as the golden throne, some works of art, some pottery and some Chinese paintings there. Write the phrases on the Bb and ask Ss to read them after you. Show some pictures to help understand the meaning.
4. Do you want to visit the Palace Museum? Now, let’s go to see the shows at the Palace Museum. First, please have a look at this poster.
Step 2 Doing activities
1. Ask Ss to look at the poster on P36. Ask the following questions:
⑴ What is this poster about? (It’s about the shows at the Palace Museum.)
⑵ What can you see in Taihe Palace? (Golden throne.)
⑶ Where can you see works of art? (In Baohe Palace.)
⑷ What can you see in Huangji Palace? (Chinese paintings.)
2. Read the poster together. Fill in the table according to the poster.
3. Say: Do you know when we go to see the golden throne? Do you know what we can see in Fengxian Palace? If your answers are ‘No’, please listen to the tape. After listening, you will know the answers.
4. Listen to Part A3 and complete the table in Part A2. Then check the answer with the whole class.
5. Ask Ss to use the poster and the table to finish Part A4. Check the answer with the whole class. Listen again when necessary. (1:10. a.m 2.10:30 a.m 3. Huangji→Baohe 4. Baohe→Huangji 5. lamps→watches )
1. After checking the answer, ask Ss to read Part A3 together.
Step 3 Presenting
Ask: Would you like to go to the Palace Museum? What can we do there? Simon and Will are going to the Palace Museum tomorrow. Now you will hear a conversation about planning to visit a place in Beijing. Please listen carefully and tell me when and where they will meet.
Step 4 Doing activities
1. Listen to the tape with the question. (Books closed) After listening, ask one student to answer the question ‘When and where will they meet?’ (They will meet at school at 8 a.m. tomorrow.)
2. Listen to the tape again. (Books open) Ask and answer the following questions:
⑴ Where would Will like to go ? (The Palace Museum.)
⑵ What can they see there? (Fine works of art.)
⑶ Will they leave at 9 a.m.? (No, at 8.)
3. Read after the tape. Then read together.
4.Ask Ss to practice the conversation in pairs, and then make up their own conversations.
5. Role-play. (Ask some students to act the dialogue out.)
Step 5 Consolidation exercises
Fill in the blanks according to the first letters.
The Palace Museum is a w_______ place to v_______. Every year, lots of people come to s_______ it. There are a lot of b_______ palaces in the Palace Museum. The most important palaces are Taihe Palace, Zhonghe Palace and Baohe Palace. Taihe Palace is the highest palace among all the palaces. It is about 27 metres high. Translation:

6.我爷爷喜爱金鱼作为宠物。(My grandfather likes keeping goldfish as pets.)
Step 6 Doing homework
1. Read and recite ‘Speak up’.
2. Do some more consolidation exercises.
