Lesson 10: Touch the World Title Lesson 10: Touch the World Teaching aims Knowledge By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to read, understand and use the new words and phrases e.g. writer, blind, deaf, illness, ability, community, make a lot of progress. Ability To be able to talk about disabled people and the reason why they should be respected. Emotion To encourage them to be brave whenever meet problems. Teaching difficult points and important points To use the new words and phrases to talk about disabled people and the reason why they should be respected. Teaching tools PPT, radio Teacher’s activities Students ’activities Aims Step1: Warm up 1. Show some pictures and teach new words and phrases in the lesson. Learn new words and phrases in the lesson. To motivate the Ss and prepare for the new lesson. Step2:Lead-in 1.Ask: Huang Yangguang can touch the world without hands, Zhang Haidi can touch the world with feet. Do you know this lady? Can she touch the world? 2. Play the audiotape for the first two paragraphs. Discuss the questions in every group. The Ss Listen and answer the questions. To motivate the Ss and lead in the new concept. Step3: New Concept 1. Read the lesson and answer the questions. 1) What’s the name of Helen’s teacher? 2) Helen can’t speak at all. (T/F) 3) What was Helen famous for? 2. Read the lesson again and answer the questions. 1) How did Anne Sullivan teach Helen Keller? 2) What was the first word Helen Keller learned? 3) Helen could learn at university by herself. (T/F) 4) Who did Helen help? 5) What can you learn from Helen? Read the lesson and finish the exercises. The Ss answer the questions independently and then discuss the answers in groups. To get to know the key information about the lesson. To get to know the details about the lesson. Step 4: Exercise Fill in the blanks with the correct forms of the words in the box. The Ss try to fill in the blanks with the words and in the lesson. To check if they grasp the main words in the lesson. Step 5: Group Work 1. Show some pictures of famous disabled people. 2. Talk about them with their group members. Discuss it in groups and choose some of them to talk in class. To give Ss time to practice their speaking abilities. Step6: Writing Ask the Ss to write a short passage about the disabled people. Write a short passage about the disabled people. To give Ss time to practice their writing abilities. Home-work 1. Finish off the exercises in the lesson. 2. Copy your passage on the exercise book.
