2 Assist Ss to learn how to ask for information politely.
3 Activate Ss’ knowledge by doing much listening and speaking.

In general
This is the fifth period of this Unit. After the Ss learn objectives clauses, they are supposed to use it for asking for information politely. At first, Ss will think about what is important for Xiangtan to be more beautiful. Then, Ss will learn some new words to describe public places by free talk. Third, ask Ss to work in pairs by using the objectives clauses to ask for information in Xiangtan politely. Ss will do some listening exercise in activity 1c and 1d. Before listening, the teacher can give some directions of listening skills. The teacher also can give some advice on how to brief the information and take notes while listening. In order to consolidate the knowledge, the Ss must work in groups to make conversations after listening. The key of this period is to make all activities closely connected and stage them in a logic way.

In detail
Step 1 Warming up
Free talk:There are two pictures of Xiangtan in PPT. Encourage the Ss to think about the two questions :As people in Xiangtan, what is important for it to be more beautiful? What should the places in Xiangtan be like? Then give Ss some pictures, and have a free talk about what qualities are important for each place?
Step 2 Pre-Listening
Task 1 Learn the new words.
Show some pictures of public places in Xiangtan. Help Ss try to think about what qualities are important for each place, especially using the new-learned adjectives words to make sentences.
Task 2 Ask Ss finish the chart first, find out the rule of the adjectives and their opposites.

Task 4 Finish1b
Pair work: Talk about places in Xiangtan using the words in 1a.
David is new in Xiangtan. He needs to find a good place to have fun/eat/go shopping…. Encourage the Ss to use the unit’s structure and new adjective words. Help the Ss review the structure of objective clauses to ask for information politely.
E.g. A: Can you tell me where there’s a good place to have fun/ go shopping/read/… in Xiangtan?
B: Of course. You can go to… And it is…
Step 3 While-Listening
Task1 Prediction
1. Practice the Ss’ listening skills. According to the picture and the incomplete information in 1c, ask Ss to guess four questions before listening.
Q1: Where are they?
Q2: What’s the man’s job in the information room?
Q3: What are they doing?
Q4: Are the tourists a family? Who are they?
2. Brainstorming: Ask Ss to talk about the pictures, and try to guess what kind of museums do they like?
Task 2 Listening
When listen to the recording, ask Ss to complete the sentences.
Task 3 Listen again and complete the charts.
Play the recording the second time, the Ss finish the charts carefully.
Task 4 Listen and repeat.
Read after the recording. Pay attention to the pronunciation.
Step 4 After-Listening
Task: Consolidation
Group work: Liu Xing’s families are going to Los Angeles for vacation. They go to Los Angeles Tourist Information for help. The children want to go to different places. Yang Zi wants to go to the University of Southern California; Liu Xing wants to see her favorite character Shrek in Universal Studios Hollywood; Xia Yu wants to have fun in Disneyland Park. Work in groups of six and make conversations between the Clerk and the family.
Step 5 Homework
1. Copy the new words three times.
2. Preview Section B 2b by going through all the relative’s words and expressions in the wordlist.
