The Benefits of Volunteering
Today, an increasing number of people are more concerned with volunteer work. As the saying goes, “All for one and one for all”. Since 1985, the American government has announced December 5th as International Volunteers Day. Personally speaking, I believe volunteering is of great benefit to both individuals and the whole society.
For one thing, volunteering does good to individuals. If someone does volunteer work, he/she will have a close look at the surroundings. He/she may find a variety of social issues, such as hunger, poverty and drought. For instance, a volunteer who works as a nurse in Africa is more likely to be sympathetic to children suffering from incurable diseases. Thus, he/she will spare no effort to help them out. Gradually, he/she will turn out to be a person with more sense of social responsibility.
For another, volunteering is beneficial to the whole society. If the majority of people in this world have the spirit of selfless dedication, this society will become more and more harmonious. Perhaps, the poor’s living standard will be tremendously improved. The homeless will feel the warmth and hospitality of home. Under this circumstance, our country will become more and more thriving and prosperous.
To sum up, I cling to the belief that volunteering does have lots of benefits.
Proper measures should be taken by local authorities to encourage volunteer work.
