Lesson type Reading and writing Teaching Background Teaching materials This lesson comes from the second unit of Module 3, which talks about reading and talking skills. The goal of this lesson is to improve Ss’ levels on reading and writing. The topic of this module is about space travel. Ss should learn the expressions of universe, space and galaxies. At the end of this class, Ss can express correctly to the topic of universe and the emotion feelings of loving science, loving nature and patriotism. Analysis of students Ss are around 13 or 14 in the second grade of junior high. They have learnt some basic knowledge on English learning but different levels. Ss at this age are full of curiosity and like exploring fresh ideas, and enjoy taking part in any kinds of activities, group work, competitions and games. Thus, teacher designs the class involving kinds of activities to meet the desire and requirement of Ss’ learning. Teaching resources and the designing of tools 1. the usage of interactive electronic whiteboard To make the good use of interaction of such a board, teacher designs many activities to enrich the background of teaching process. Teacher drags, clicks and classifies the knowledge of this lesson by using the board and Ss get involved some activities directly which enhances Ss’ interests of learning and cultivates their initiation. 2、the usage of multimedia To make the good use of internet resources to enlarge Ss’ knowledge and common sense by broadcasting some videos, audios and pictures. Teaching tactic 1. communicative teaching method, including the communication of teacher and Ss and the communication among Ss; 2. audio-visual teaching method, including the interaction of multimedia, pictures and videos of electronic whiteboard and so on; 3. task-based teaching method , motivated by concrete learning motivation to accomplish tasks and help them understand the theme while doing tasks. Learning tactic Ss would adopt the tactic of individual and group learning Analysis of teaching goals: knowledge and skills 1. To learn the expression relating to universe, such as planet, solar system, environment and so on; 2. To learn the grammatical structure of the Present Perfect Tense, which includes statement, negative and question patterns; 3. To understand the passage on the introduction of universe and find some detail information through reading; 4. To describe the imagination that whether there are other living creatures in the whole universe by writing and present to the class. progress and method 1. To improve Ss’ skills on listening, speaking, reading and writing; 2. To practice the ability of searching for key information through reading; 3. To learn and adopt Ss’ autonomous learning abilities to solve problems in class. emotional value: To cultivate Ss’ interests of loving science and nature and enhance Ss’ sense of patriotism and pride and cohesion. Teaching priority and difficulty 1. Priority:the understanding of some abstract vocabularies related to universe, such as planet, star, solar system, milky way, universe 2. Difficulty: the difference between “been to” and “gone to” in the Present Perfect Tense. Read the passage with emotion and intonation Improve Ss’ skills of listening and reading Activity3 Make true and false question Finish the task Improve Ss’ skills of reading and lead to the next part of teaching Activity4 Show Ss some vocabularies such as planet,star,sun, solar system, Galaxy, Milky Way, Universe by using the whiteboard for better understanding of the text Answer T’s questions and get a better understanding of these vocabularies With the help of the whiteboard, Ss can easily master the meaning of these vocabularies. Activity5 Ask Ss to guess words(environment,impossible, discover, communicate)for better understanding of the passage Guess words and make up sentenses with them aroud the topic of space To make a quick review of the vocabulary Activity6 Drag the new words by using whiteboard and learn the grammar Drag the words, fill in the blanks, read the article and translate into Chinese. Go over new vocabularies by completing the passage in practical use. and learn the grammar Activity7 Ask Ss to learn grammar point of been to and gone to by using whiteboard Conclude the usage of grammar point Make the language learning into reading itself and try to make up sentences Activity 8 Group work: finish a poster Ask Ss to finish a poster which relates to the topic of space Finish the poster and make a presentation among groups Meet the goal that using the language point to communicate in real life as well as improving Ss’ writing ability Activity 9 Cultivate the emotional affection Play the video of the launch of Shen ZhouⅨ and ask Ss to make a free talk Discuss and make a conclusion——we are proud of our country.
