Module 11 Unit 2 Reading and vocabulary Teaching Aims and Demands: 1. Language knowledge: Key vocabulary: swimsuit, northwest, umbrella, pleasant, southeast, from time to time, compared Key structure: Bring a good map because… 2. Reading skill: (1) Get information about the best time to visit the USA. (2) Improve students’ reading ability. Teaching Aids: Multi-Media, a tape recorder Teaching Procedures: Step 1 Warming-up 1. Get the students to watch a flash of an English song about the weather. Make them lose themselves in it and get interested in this lesson. 2. Let the students give the weather forecast for the different places in Jiaxing ( they must prepare it last night). Ask two students to act it in class. 设计意图:通过设置让学生当一次小天气预报员用书本中学到的语言来解决生活中的实际问题,能够调动起学生的积极性,并且复习了前一个单元的内容. Step 2 Talking 1. Show the students some pictures of the USA, Let them talk about the picture, and find out the different places with different kinds of weather in the pictures. 2. If we want to visit the USA, when is the best time? Get the students to discuss in groups of four. 3.Students give their own ideas. 设计意图:在学习之前,先检查学生原先拥有的知识的量,有力于教师更好的进行下一步的教学,也很好地煅炼了学生的思维能力和语言表达能力. Step 3 Listening and reading 1. Divide the class into four groups. Tell them they will listen to a passage and they must tell us what the passage is about, the more the better. The group which can tell the most information is the winner. 2. Make students listen to the tape and tell what they’ve heard. 3. Teach the new words and do Activity 3. If the students find it a little difficult they can refer to the book. Make Ss read the passage quickly to find out the answers. 4. Ss read the passage once more, and find out what they can’t understand, solve the problems in pairs or in groups. 设计意图:这个环节主要功能是提高学生的听力,阅读能力和理解能力,并且让学生找到自己不理解的地方然后再想办法解决. Step 4 Making a survey 1. If there is a chance that you can visit a place, which place you like to go best? When do you want to go there? Why? 2. Interview the members in your group and fill in the form. Why? Why? When do you want to go there? Where do you want to go? Name 3. Give a report for the survey in class. 设计意图:在学习刚才的短文的基础上,让学生在这个环节进一步巩固知识,将知识内化.并将课本上所学到的知识延伸到课外,让学生充分发挥自身的想象力,提高学生的语言表达能力. Step 5 Writing 1. Show the students a picture of Jim. 2. Your pen friend Jim is in the USA now, he wants to come to see you, can you give him some advice on visiting your town and give the reasons? 3. Discuss it with your partner then write it down. Suggested words: because, so and but. Step 6 Homework 1.Write down the advice in step 6. 2.Retell the passage. - 2 - 用心 爱心 专心
