Book1 (Foreign Language Teaching and Researching Press) Type of Lesson Speaking Time 10 mins Analysis of the Students As vocational school students, It is common that some of them do not take the initiative to learn English because their English is not that good and they also don’t know how to communicate in English. However, as teenagers, they are active, vigorous and creative, so they are willing to learn what interests them. Therefore, the teacher should carry out different activities to attract students’ attention and help them to take an initiative part in class and learn what they are supposed to learn. It might not be so easy for students to ask ways in English. So the teacher will adopt practical and vivid teaching methods to help the students. Analysis of the Teaching Material Asking ways is an important part of this unit, and these materials are mainly about how to ask ways. Many students have experiences of asking ways, so the teacher should let the students understand how to ask ways in English in a polite way. At the end of this lesson, the students are supposed to understand the steps to ask ways this lesson introduced. Also, in order to consolidate their knowledge, they need to design a further dialogue to practice after class. Teaching Objective 1. Knowledge Objective: 1) Ss should grasp the steps to ask ways. 2. Ability Objective: 1) Ss master how to ask ways, and try to improve their speaking ability. 2) Ss can describe the work flow with the help of the sentence patterns introduced. 3. Moral Objective: Ss work with others to finish certain tasks so as to improve their team spirit. Brainstorming T: What can you see from the short cartoon? Ss: Share their answers. T: make a conclusion about the cartoon and bring out the topic of this lesson. Brainstorm Ss with the cartoon so that the Ss will be interested in this topic and get ready for this new lesson. Step2 New Presentation (4mins) 1. Learn words about places 1) restaurant: a place from which we can buy a range of food items. bank: a place where we can manage our money. post office: a place where we can post letters. gym: a place where we can exercise. 2) match to consolidate words. 2. Ask for information 1) ⅠT: How can we ask for information about a restaurant? Excuse me, I’m looking for a restaurant. Excuse me, do you know if there is a restaurant? Ⅱhow we use it: example 1 2) ⅠT: How can we get more information? By the way, could you tell me how I can get there? / could you tell me the way to…? Ⅱhow we use it: example 2 With this part, the students will lay a solid basis. Make it clear that students are familiar with steps to help Jagger: how to ask ways To encourage more students to practice their English. Step3 Practice (3mins) 1. Scenario description You are new in this city and ask a stranger the way to the post office. 2. Pair work Ask students to make a dialogue and the two to work out in front of the course. The students will put what we learnt into practice. Step4 Summary (1 mins) 1. steps to help Jagger ⅠLearn words about places Ⅱtwo sub-steps: 2.1 Excuse me, I’m looking for…/do you know if there is…? 2.2 By the way, could you tell me the way to …? /could you tell me how I can get to…? Ask students to review steps to ask ways and also consolidate what they have learnt in the lesson. Step5 Homework ( 1 mins) Make a dialogue about asking ways according to the map of our school. Let students consolidate what they have learnt.
