Unit 6 Natural Disasters welcome to the unit
Teaching Aims:To Develop students’ response to the story and arouse their interest in the topic of disasters.
To activate existing knowledge of the world in response to newspaper headlines.
To identify vocabulary related to the topic:
Important points: Words: natural accident wash village lightning storm rainstorm thunder
Phrases: start to rain half an hour later kill thousands of people wash the village away start a big fire fall from a tree
Teaching procedures:
Step 1:Warming up
T:What are these pictures about?
S: Natural disasters.
T: Natural disasters often take place and many people are in danger. One day Hobo was also in trouble. What happened to Hobo?
Step2: listen to the conversation between Hobo and Eddie and answer questions:
What’s the weather like?
What happened to Hobo’s house?
Why doesn’t he want to go home alone?
Step 3: Read and act out.
Step 4: Fill in the blanks.
Step 5: Discussion
Will Eddie help him? And what about you?
Step 6: Some words about natural disasters.
T: A rainstorm made Hobo’s house wet and Hobo can’t live in his own house. Also many other people in the world are in the danger of natural disasters. Try to give more words about bad weather and natural disasters.
Activity 5: Learn more words about natural disasters.
1. Match the words with the pictures (Part B)
2. More words about natural disaster.
3. Tell the differences between natural disasters and accidents.
Step 7: Finish the exercise in Part A.and check the answers.
T: Tell the stories behind their headlines to your classmates .Try to make your stories interesting. (one group, one headline)
Step 8: Homework:Write a little story about a natural disaster.
