(1)I have read with much satisfaction the phrase which you quote concerning the number strongholds. Yes, there must be few of them, bu

、t good ones. (2) when she pointed out that it must be he who spread the rumor, he retorted: “No! No!” (3) “we do not”, she reminded us gently, “want to trouble him” we all shook our heads.

“whats the time?”“Its already twenty-two past the hour. So hurry up ,then.”(5)It seems to me what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

When he saw my splendid new car ,he was absoutely green with enry(7)我讨厌这个寻花问柳的家伙。I feel disgusted at this womanzing man.不要把“寻花问柳”译成“look for flowers and inquire about willows”,这种逐字翻译法实际上是死译和胡译。 It is as significant as a game of crick

、et. 如果读者信仰佛教,就译成“Man proposes,Heaven disposes”1、 Translation consists in reproducing in the receptor language the closest natural equivalent of the source language, first in terms of meaning and se

2、 Translation can be defined as follows: The replacement of texutual material in one language by equivalent textual material in another language 3、 A translation should give a complete transcript of

、 the ideas of the original work; The style and manner or writing should be of the same character as that of the original; A translation should have all the ease of the original composition. 4、Translation it is that openeth the window, to let in the light

、; that breaketh the shell, that we may eat the kernel; that putteth aside the curtain, that we may look into the most holy place; that removeth the cover of the well, that we may come by the water. 5、I like to think of the orig

、inal work as an ice cube. During the process of translation the cube is melted. While in its liquid state. every molecule changes place; none remains in its original relationship to the others. Then begins the process of forming the work in a second language. Molecules escape, new molecules are pour

、ed in to fill the spaces, but the lines of molding and mending are virtually invisible. The work exists in the second language as a new ice cube-different, but to all appearances the same.

At the age of twelve years. the human body is at its most vigorous. It has yet to reach its full size and strength. and its owner his or her full intelligence; but at this age, the likelihood of death is least. Earlier, we were infa

、nts and young children, and consequently more vulnerable; later, we shall undergo a progressive loss of vigor and resistance which, though imperceptible at first, will finally become so steep that we can live no longer, however well we look after ourselves ,and however well society. and our doctors,

、 look after us .This decline in vigor with the passing of time is called ageing. It is one of the most unpleasant discoveries we shall make that we must decline in this way ,that if we escape wars, accidents and diseases we shall eventually “die of old age”, and that this happens at a rate which dif

、fers little from person to person ,so that there are heavy odds in favor of our dying between the ages of sixty-five and eighty. Some of us will die sooner, a few will live longer-on into a ninth or tenth decade .But the chances are against it ,and there is a virtual limit on how long we can hope to

、 remain alive, however lucky and robust we are. Normal people tend to forget this process unless and until they are reminded of it. We are so familiar with the fact that man ages, that people have for years assumed that the process of losing vigor with time, of becoming more likely to die the older

、we get, was something self-evident, like the cooling of a hot kettle or the wearing-out of a pair of shoes. They have also assumed that all animals, and probably other organisms such as trees, or even the universe itself, must in the nature of things wear out. Most animals we commonly observe do in

、fact age as we do, if given the chance to live long enough; and mechanical systems like a wound watch, or the sun, do in fact run out of energy in accordance with the second law of thermodynamics (whether the whole universe does so is a moot point at present). But these are not analogous to what hap

、pens when man ages. A run-down watch is still a watch and can be rewound. An old watch, by contrast, becomes so worn and unreliable that it eventually is not worth mending. But a watch could never repair itselfit does not consist of living parts, only of metal, which wears away by friction. We could

、, at one time, repair ourselveswell enough, at least, to overcome all but the most instantly fatal illnesses and accidents. Between twelve and eighty years we gradually lose this power; an illness which at twelve would knock us over, at eighty can knock us out, and into our grave. If we could stay a

、s vigorous as we are at twelve, it would take about 700 years for half of us to die, and another 700 for the survivors to be reduced by half again.

(1) The very earth trembled as with the tramps o

、f horses and murmur of angry men. (2) The message is profoundly simple, and profoundly mysterious also: life goes on. That is all there is to it. Everything that is, was; and everything that is, will be. A teacher should have pati

、ence in his work.(4)他耸耸肩,摇摇头,两眼看天,一句话也不说。 He shrugged his shoulders, shook his head, cast up his eyes, but said nothing.2. (5)In the evening, after the banquets, the concerts and the table tennis, he would work on the drafting if the final communique.

、ir wits combined equal Zhuge Liang the mastermind.3. (14)Several millions of people have lived near or below the breadline for almost two decades.(15)“小李,什么时候请吃糖啊?” “Xiao Li, ”Granny Wang smiled, “When can I eat your wedding candy?” “I dont know.” She blushed with shy

、ness.4. (16)He started to his feet with the intention of awaking the sleepers, for there was no time to lose. (17)She was ready to go, but first she wanted her book to be in print.

(18) He was thin and haggard and he looked miserable. (19) Outside it was pitch dark, and it was raining acts and dogs. (20) If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

、ked at a job would receive preference over those who had not. 1. I could not help thinking of this fable when the only day I saw George lunching by himself in a restaurant.
