Dear Disney,
Last weekend, the four members of my family spent an enjoyable holiday at the Magic Kingdom — Disneyland. And one event made our visit seem truly magical.
We got to the front of the line at Space Mountain, only to find out that our little daughter Gloria couldn't take her icecream on the ride. We were so excited that we all forgot icecream was not allowed on the ride.
Gloria cried and we all had no idea what to do. Then Murphy, one of the staff (员工) members, came over. She bent down (弯腰), and told Gloria that she would hold the icecream for her and give it to her when she finished the ride. Gloria said, “Promise?” Then she gave Murphy her icecream, and she completely enjoyed the ride.
Sure enough, as we walked out the exit, there was Gloria's new friend with “her” icecream.
Now you and I both know what happened, because we know that an icecream won't last twenty minutes on a summer afternoon in Florida. Murphy knew what time we would get off the ride; she went to the nearest shop and bought a brandnew (全新的)icecream thirty seconds before we walked out the exit. Gloria said, “Thank you,” but I'm sure she thought it was the same icecream.
We know that someone tried hard to make our visit special. Thanks so much for going above and beyond!
Your fan,
Carmen Rivera

Easter Island,an island in the south Pacific Ocean, belongs to Chile. The island is famous for its stone statues (雕像) along the coastlines.
In 1722, an explorer named Jacob Roggeveen visited the island. This happened to be on Easter Sunday, and this gave the island its name: Easter Island. What he discovered there were three types of people, darkskinned, redskinned, and very paleskinned people with red hair. The island had a small population with almost no culture they could remember. They hardly had any contact with the outside world.
Most scientists believe that the Polynesians were the first people of Easter Island. Another guess is that the first people came from South America, for the sweet potato, a main diet of the early Easter Island people, was from South America. It shows that there must have been some connection between the two cultures. Erich von Daniken, a famous writer, believes that aliens once lived on the island.
The most famous sight on Easter Island is the 887 huge stone statues called Moai. Most of the statues are 5.5 to 7 meters tall and very few are shorter than 3 meters. The average (平均的) weight is 14 tons. Some Moai weigh more than 80 tons. Every one of them is made of one single piece of huge stone. Although all the Moai are large with heads and shortened bodies, no two exactly resemble (相像) each other. Besides, since the land had been treeless by the time the Europeans first visited, how the statues were moved is still a mystery.
It is believed that the statues were used to represent ancestors whom the island people regarded as gods. They were placed as a warning to keep enemies out and watch over other tribes (部落).

A. it was discovered by Jacob Roggeveen
B. it was discovered on Easter Sunday

D. it is to the east of Chile

6.How many opinions about the first people on the island are mentioned in the passage?
A. Two. B. Three.
C. Four. D. Five.
7.Which of the following about the statues on Easter Island is TRUE?
A. Most of them are less than four meters in height.
B. Their heads and bodies were made separately.
C. They were moved with wood.
D. They were used as symbols of gods.
答案与解析 D 细节理解题。由最终一段中It is believed that the statues were used to represent ancestors whom the island people regarded as gods可知,这些石像代表了岛上居民的祖先,他们被居民奉为神。

I have never understood why so many people visit Rome from late spring to early autumn, when traffic, heat, stressed (强调)shopkeepers and waiters make a busy city. Things improve a little in March, April, October and November.
But connoisseurs (内行) know that winter is the best time to go there. In winter, the colors are more vivid(明丽的) and the lowflying sun turns Rome into a wonderful stage set. There are days in winter when the sky is kind of blue — I've never seen anywhere else. And there are also days when you find that you have beautiful sights all to yourself.
Perhaps the only period you might want to avoid are the two weeks before Christmas. Italians often leave their shopping late, and traffic in the city is often heavy. But this can also be a good time to come if you are more interested in culture than in fashion shops, and if you stay somewhere central so that you can beat the traffic by walking everywhere.
Christmas in Rome is a lowkey (低调的) family event. One of the nice things is the way the city keeps going: although museums and shops are closed, many bars and restaurants stay open, and public transport continues to run. Wherever you go, shops are comfortingly smallscale.
If you're lucky with the weather, it's in January and February that Rome is at its best. Late February in particular can be attractive. One sometimes forgets what a difference that extra hour of daylight makes compared with midDecember; there are always a few days of proper sunshine, when you can picnic in Villa Borghese and Pompeii. Remember that you have caught the sun after you go back to the hotel.

B. He has a good knowledge of Rome.
