Children are interested in gardening as well, if given the chance to explore nature and science in this way. Gardening can bring joy to both children and their parents alike, especially when the experience is shared together. The time that is spent gardening together builds precious memories within their hearts and minds for years to come. When you are gardening with your children, try to give them their own special area. Keep their area in the centre of the best soil and light, as you want to make sure of a successful gardening experience. Plastic tools easily break and are difficult to use in the dirt, so when you are gardening with your children, give them real tools to use if possible. Even offering to let them use your tools is a way to admit the worth of the work they are doing. It is also important to talk with your children about the whole process of gardening, from planting to the harvest. They need to understand how things work and the importance of what they are doing. Show off the children's gardening work by taking friends and visitors for a walking tour through the garden and point out the children's particular spot. When you give attention to the children's work, this is a great motivation (动机) for children to continue wanting to be involved. Do not force children to take part when they are in a bad mood or if they are becoming bored. Instead, allow them to do something different, like building a scarecrow (稻草人)! This makes the gardening experience even more interesting. As you work together side by side with your children, you will encourage a love of the land in them, as well as create lasting memories of time spent with you. 21.What is the text mainly about? A. Teaching children how to garden. B. Giving children the chance to show off. C. Helping children realize the importance of work. D. Sharing the joy of gardening with children. 答案与解析 D 依据第一段中“Gardening can bring joy to both children and their parents alike, especially when the experience is shared together.” 22.Why should you introduce your children's work to your friends? A. It makes your friends believe your children are smart. B. It helps you gain more confidence in your children. C. It encourages children to continue doing such work. D. It attracts your friends to take part in your gardening. 答案与解析 C 依据第四段中的“Show off the children's gardening work by taking friends and visitors for a walking tour through the garden and point out the children's particular spot. When you give attention to the children's work, this is a great motivation (动机) for children to continue wanting to be involved.” 23.What kind of people is the text mainly written for? Do you argue whether it's cold outdoors or whether the car in front of you is going faster than the speed limit? If you get into such arguments, try to think about the story about the six blind men and the elephant. The first blind man who felt the elephant's trunk said it was like a snake. The second who felt the elephant's side said it was like a wall, while the third said it was like a spear as he touched the animal's tusk. The fourth, who took hold of the elephant's tail insisted that it was like a rope. The fifth man said it looked like a tree as he put his arms around one of the elephant's legs. The sixth, who was tall and got hold of the elephant's ears, said it was like a huge fan. Each man's idea of the animal came from his own experience. So if someone disagrees with you about a “simple fact”, it's often because his experience in the matter is different from yours. To see how hard it is for even one person to make up his mind about a “simple fact”, try this simple experiment. Get three large bowls. Put ice water in one. Put hot water in the second. Put lukewarm water (冷水) in the third. Now put your left hand in the ice water. Put your right hand in the hot water. After thirty seconds, put both hands in the lukewarm water. Your right hand will tell you the water is cold. Your left hand will tell you it's hot. 24.What makes people think about simple facts differently? A. The fact that simple facts differ from one another. B. The fact that people have different experience in the same simple fact. C. The fact that people often disagree with one another. D. The fact that it's hard to make up one's mind about simple facts. 25.The writer's advice is that ________. A. we should never think about simple facts B. we should never judge something with a onesided view C. we should not agree about simple facts D. we must learn from the six blind men 26.After reading the last paragraph, we may think of ________. A. Newton's law B. Galileo's theory of falling objects C. Einstein's theory of relativity D. Marx's on capital 27.What's the main idea of this passage? Their lifestyle, friends, and social habits can have a strong influence on our lives. So it's a good idea to get along well with neighbours and build a better relationship that will last for many years to come. But how should you get along with your neighbours? When you hear of a special need you can meet, do it, such as sitting with a sick child while your neighbour goes to work or taking an elderly parent to a doctor's appointment when their car won't start. If you hear that someone close by is ill, has an accident, or is out of work, give him or her a hot meal or a fresh dessert. Your kindness will add a special feeling during a difficult time. If your neighbour is cutting down a tree or building a doghouse, offer helping hands to him or her. There is no better way to build relationships. Besides, you never know when the favor might be returned. Exchange holiday cards, gifts or traditions. Invite your neighbours over for a cup of coffee or lunch. A backyard barbecue can be a great way to share food and fun. If they've watched your kids grow up or been concerned about your family events, they may want to share these special events. Plan a party. Invite all your neighbours to your party. Planning and carrying out the activity helps everyone to know and understand each other. Your neighbours are like your family in many ways since you have to live with them, or near them for a long time. Appreciate their strong points and ignore weak points, and everyone will get along well. 28.The purpose of the first paragraph is to ________.
