In fact, I’ve started swimming regularly. Text 3 M: Your husband looks great. Has he lost weight? W: Yeah. Twenty pounds. M: That’s great! What does he weigh now? W: 160 pounds. M: How tall is he? W: Five feet. Text 4 M: Is your sister elder than you or younger? W: She’s five years elder. M: Do you have a lot in common? W: Not really. Our interests are very different. Text 5 M: Excuse me, how do I get to the drugstore? W: Go straight ahead on main street. As soon as you pass a big department store, turn left. It’ll be on your right near the bank. Text 6 M; What did you use to do before you came here? W: I was marketing director at Lowell and White. M: Oh, then you worked with Don Ford. W: Yes. As a matter of fact, We are good friends. M: Did you travel a lot for that job too? W: Hardly ever. That’s something I love about this job. Of course I work harder now. I never worked late at the office on my old job. Text 7 W: I got a call from Mike last night. M: Who’s that? W: Don’t you remember? He’s the one who just got married. M: Oh, right, the artist. What does his wife do again? W: She is a nurse. Anyway, they’d like us to go to his parents’ house for dinner on Saturday. M: We have theatre tickets for Saturday, don’t we? We’re going with Bob and Paul. W: Oh, I completely forgot! I’d better call him back right now. Text 8 M: This is one of the finest museums I’ve ever been to, and I’ve been to a lot of museums. It’sa shame Sandy couldn’t make it. We’ve seen so little of him this trip. W: Well, he hasn’t been himself lately. M: Is he still upset about the job? W: Yes, he was really disappointed. M: He can’t go on being depressed forever. He has to start looking for something else. W: Oh, he has. Actually, there is one possibility, but he’s not too excited about it. M: Why not? It’s not a good job? W: Oh, no, it’s a great job-very similar to the one he didn’t get . It’s an even larger company, but it’s in Los Angeles. Sandy has a brother who lives there. M: Does it look promising? W: No, I really don’t think he’ll get it, and, well, I know this sounds selfish, but in a way I’m happy. I mean, Los Angeles in two thousand miles from here. Text 9 M: Hello? W: Hello. I’m calling about the apartment you advertised. Is it still available? M: Yes, it is. W: Could you tell me more about it? M: Sure. There are three bedrooms and a bath. The living room’s pretty large-about eighteen by twenty-three feet. The bedrooms and the kitchen are smaller. Oh, and there’s parking available. Do you have a car? W: Yes, but I’d rather not drive to work. How close is it to public buses? M: The Number 1 bus stop’s a block away. W: Do you happen to know how often it runs during rush hours? M: Every five minutes or so. W: It sounds perfect. What floor is it on? M: The first floor. W: Hmmm…that’s a problem. I’d rather not live on the first floor. M: Well, there’s all I have for the time being, but I will have another on the third floor in the near future. W: How soon will it be available? M: November 1st W: Oh, well, I really can’t wait that long. But thanks anyway. Text 10 A study of people’s greatest fears was recently made in the United States.
