Yesterday I went to the nursing home to visit my grandma. She just got out of the hospital recently where she had some serious operations. I wanted to surprise her after work so I stopped by for a quick visit.
When I got there, she was happy to see me. We hugged, kissed and exchanged greetings. Then I heard a woman crying. It was my grandma's roommate. The curtain was drawn so I could not see her. She started calling out a name that wasn't mine but she was certainly talking to me, begging me to go to her side of the room.
I ignored her at first and continued visiting with my grandma. Then she started begging and saying, “Please, come to see me!”So I went to see her.
When I drew the curtain back, she looked so old but flashed me the biggest smile! She opened her arms wide for me to hug her so I bent low and gave her a hug. I sat on her bed and talked with her for a few minutes. She kept calling me by the other name but I did not correct her. She told me stories as if I had been there when they happened.
Finally, I went back to talk with my grandma. Then the other woman started crying again, saying, “Please, come back.” She finally slept.
I stopped by the nurse's station and the nurse told me that the lady suffers from Alzheimer's(老年痴呆症). I mentioned the name she had called me. The nurse told me it was the lady's daughter's name. Then I understood why she wanted me to go to talk with her.
We will all get old someday. Some of us will have broken minds like my grandma's roommate and some of us will have broken bodies like my grandma. As I was leaving, I promised I would go back and visit the lady, even after my grandma moved back to her home.

Imagine that while walking through a park one day, you begin to notice strange things all around you. People in colorful clothes from centuries ago walk on the paths. A magician is doing amazing tricks. Musicians play strange music on strange instruments. Knights on horseback show their skills in riding competitions. The smell of roasting meat begins to make your mouth water. A pleasant voice shouts, “Good morrow! (早安)”
What is going on? Have you traveled back in time? In a way, yes. You have found yourself in the midst of a Renaissance fair(文艺复兴节)!Since the 1960s, Renaissance fairs have grown in popularity in the US and Canada. Communities in at least 44 states and two Canadian provinces now hold annual Renaissance fairs. Over 200 fairs are held every year, with 40 in California alone. The first Renaissance fair was started in the 1960s by a school teacher in Southern California named Phyllis Patterson. She wanted to give her students a real-life history experience, so she created the “Renaissance Fair” in her backyard. The rest, as they say, is history.
Since Renaissance fairs are “living history”, you might think they are designed to be mainly educational. It’s true that some people try to make the fairs as genuine as possible. However, for many others, the key word is entertainment. With all the musicians and magicians walking about, you will definitely be entertained. A renaissance fair will be a feast for your eyes and your ears, not to mention your stomach.
You can enjoy sampling the food and drink while watching parades and live animal displays. Browse through the booths(摊位) and admire the artwork and handcrafts. You are sure to be both educated and entertained. If you’re wondering how to dress to attend a Renaissance fair, that’s up to you. Some people go all out and dress up in costumes. Others just go in their normal, everyday clothes. And if you have ever wanted to travel back in time, here’s your chance.
28. Why did Phyllis start a Renaissance fair?
A. To help her students become the master of history.
B. To allow her students to pay in her backyard.
C. To give her students an experience of life.
D. To make her students experience history.
29. As well as educating, Renaissance fairs are intended for ______.
A. fun B. communication C. business D. adventure
30. The last paragraph suggests that ______.
A. you are taught to make art work
B. you are free to dress for the fairs
C. you have to look after live animals
D. D. you can enjoy food free of charge
31. The main idea of the passage is that ______.
A. Americans and Canadians like fairs more
B. Attending Renaissance fairs is to be educated
C. Renaissance fairs are more popular than ever
D. California is where modern fairs were born

Water keeps us alive. When it runs out, we have a problem.
About one out of four people on the planet are facing a shortage of water. Seventeen countries around the world are dealing with high-water stress. This means they are using almost all the water they have access to. Many are dry countries. Some waste much of their water. Some may currently use too much of their groundwater that they should be saving. Several big cities face acute shortages. These include São Paulo, Brazil; Chennai, India; and Cape Town, South Africa. A year ago, Cape Town faced Day Zero -- the day when all its dams would be dry.
Climate change adds to the risk of water shortages. Rainfall is less steady. The water supply becomes less reliable. The days grow hotter. More water evaporates(蒸发) from reservoirs even as demand for water increases. By 2030, the number of cities in the high-stress category may rise to 45 and include almost 470 million people.
All over the world, farmers compete with city residents for water. Rich urban places, such as Los Angeles, use too much water for pools and golf courses. But the worst problem is the growth of cities. For example, consider Bangalore, India. First, they had a few years with little rain. It built over its many lakes or filled them with city waste. The lakes are no longer the rainwater storage tanks they once were. Bangalore now imports water. A lot of the imported water gets lost on the way to Bangalore.
What to do? First, cities can plug leaks in their water distribution system. Wastewater can be recycled. Rain can be harvested and saved for tough times. Lakes and wetlands can be cleaned up and old wells can be restored. And farmers can switch from water-intensive crops like rice. Instead, they can grow less-thirsty crops like millet.
Experts are looking at ways to reduce the number of people on the planet. They are looking at ways to reduce the size of cities. They are looking for ways to encourage people, factories, and farmers to use less water.
32. What may have caused some people to run out of water?
A. Lacking dams to hold water.
B. Wasting much of their water.
C. Using too much saved water.
D. Facing a shortage of water.
33. What is the main idea of the third paragraph?
A. Rainfall is not as steady as before.
B. Climate change increases the problem.
C. The water supply relies more on rainfall.
D. Hotter weather changes the water demand.
34. What can farmers do to deal with water shortage?
A. Reduce the number of people in the cities.
B. Plug leaks in the water distribution system.
C. Grow less-water consumption crops instead.
D. Clean up lakes and wetlands and restore wells.
35. What will be discussed if the passage continues?
A. How to inspire people to save water.
B. How to recycle wastewater in cities.
C. How to prevent from climate change.
D. How to make people get access to clean water.

Riding a Mobike on the street, you might hear some people speaking Chinese aloud. 36 After walking into a store, it's possible that you'll see Huawei-smartphones for sale.
This isn’t referring to China, but Manchester, UK. 37 Indeed, Chinese products have gone global.
38 But to meet local people's tastes, Chinese restaurants have made some changes to the dishes. “One example is the meat,” said Yin Hang, who is studying at the University of Wollongong in Australia. We like to eat meat with the bone in, but people here don't. So Chinese restaurants provide big pieces of meat without bones, even for fish.” 39 In many cities in Europe, stores sell TCL televisions, Haier fridges and Lenovo computers, reported Reuters. More than half of US-owned drones (无人机) are Chinese models, according to China Daily. They’re not simply made in China, but designed and developed in the country.
In the past, most Western people thought Chinese products were cheap and unreliable. But things have changed greatly. 40 For example, Huawei, one of China's major Smartphone makers, overtook Apple in global Smartphone sales for the first time in June and July last year, behind only Samsung. “They are beautiful and offer some unique features American phones don’t have,” CNN once said about Chinese Smartphones.
A. Many Chinese products are also becoming more popular.
B. What is the biggest problem with many Chinese products?
C. Turning to the right, you may
