From climate change and gun violence to natural disasters, readers come across a story, learn about an issue and often feel compelled to help. However, without any guidance on how to make a difference, many abandon the attempt and move on with their day. Ideal Impact, a new Web-based app (应用程序), sees that as a lost opportunity. The app is designed to connect news stories with efficient ways to help make a difference in the real world. Let’s say, for example, you recently read an article, “The heartbreaking, world of captive (被抓的) exotic birds” and felt moved by the stories of the often sad lives those birds are forced to live. Once installed on your phone or browser, Ideal Impact would show you opportunities to volunteer, donate or get involved to help captive exotic birds. Founder, Olivier Kamanda, explains in the company’s video, “What would happen when you come across a story that makes you want to get involved in? That arouses a fundamental question, ‘How can I help?’ Unfortunately there is no platform that takes you from that moment of inspiration to a meaningful service opportunity. So every year 90 million people are inspired to get involved to do something with their time and they don’t know how. And that comes at a cost of 207 billion dollars in lost volunteer time and donations.” Kamanda said in an interview with the Smithsonian, “Our app bridges the gap between people who are inspired to make a difference and organizations that need support.” Once the app is installed as a browser plugin (插件) on a desktop or mobile device, you can read the news as you normally would. And then, when you come across a story that inspires you to take action, you can click on the Ideal Impact button that appears in the main menu of your browser. That will load the app and show you opportunities to get involved with non-profit organizations that are working to deal with the issue you just read about. 1、What is Ideal Impact? A.Its software. B.It’s a charity group. C.It’s a computer company. D.It’s a non-profit organization. 2、How does the author explain the function of Ideal Impact? A.By making comparisons. B.By giving figures. C.By giving quotations. D.By giving an example. 3、What can Ideal Impact do? A.It can help people make a contribution. B.It can help people search for exotic birds. C.It can help people read news stories more easily. D.It can help people make a difference to their career. 4、What will happen after you click on the Ideal Impact button? A.You will have fun news to read. B.You will find a solution to a problem. C.You may get access to a related charity. D.The main menu of your browser will appear. 22.(8分) Who says only big cities can be beautiful and charming? Some people argue that opportunities and good fortune are the secrets to success. But Innovation Works CEO Kaifu Lee believes that entrepreneurs need to have certain qualities to help them face the difficulties of starting a business. At a recent LinkedIn conference, Lee mentioned some of these qualities. “Even though we’re now in a golden period for innovation and start-ups, not everyone is meant to be an entrepre- neur. Entrepreneurs share the same qualities — they are confident, communicative and focused. They don’t fear losing, and they are good at learning,”he said. Lee explained that he often meets young people who are irresolute about setting up a business. “ If that’s the case for you then don’t do so,” he said at the conference. The bottom line, he said, is that entrepreneurs should be determined and passionate. passion is vital to entrepreneurs since it typically relates to self-motivation, according to Li Jun, 26, founder of Wuhan Lushenglin Plant Wall Co Ltd. “Entrepreneurs often need to work around the clock. It’s easier for people to put up with the difficult schedule if they’re passionate about what they’re doing,” he said. Entrepreneurs are also generally thought of as risk-takers. But Yu Xiuhong, general secretary of the Bright China foundation, warns that young entrepreneurs should not take too many risks. “Successful entrepreneurs rarely take risks blindly or jump at opportunities others avoid. Before launching a business, it's advisable to do market research, evaluate yourself and your opponents,” she said. Also she advises that young people thoroughly calculate their expenses in advance. Take Li Dongjin as an example, 35-year-old long-term entrepreneur disappeared a week ago after his O2O car washing company failed disastrously. He had gotten an initial investment of 5 million yuan but wasted it all on allowance and publicity. 1、Which of the following is not the quality of an entrepreneur according to Kaifu Lee? A.Confidence. B.Determination. C.Leadership skill. D.Learning ability. 2、What did Li Jun say about entrepreneurs? A.They can’t be motivated without enthusiasm. B.They shouldn't complain about their tight .schedule. C.They should have an urge to improve themselves. D.They may suffer health problems due to heavy work loads. 3、What has the closest meaning with the underlined word “irresolute” in Paragraph 4? A.Delighted. B.Hesitant. C.Anxious. D.Sure. 4、What can we infer from the last two paragraphs? A.Yu Xiuhong regrets jumping at opportunities before. B.Li Dongjin is a failure for lack of adventurous spirit. C.Li Dongjin shouldn’t have started a car washing company. D.Yu Xiuhong believes it a must to think twice before taking risks. 24.(8分) An international team of researchers from the University of Oxford have found that the way people use the Internet is closely tied to the seasonal movements in the natural world. Their online species searches follow the patterns of seasonal animal migrations (迁徙). Migratory birds (候鸟) flood back to where they reproduce every spring. That migratory behavior is accompanied by some human behavior. “In English-language Wikipedia (维基百科), the online searches for migratory species tend to increase in spring when those birds arrive in the United States,” said the lead author John Mittermeier. And not just birds. Mittermeier and his team surveyed nearly 2.5 billion Wikipedia search records, for 32,000 species, across 245 languages. They also saw variable search rates for insects, horsetails and flowering plants. Seasonal trends seemed to be widespread in Wikipedia behavior for many species of plants and animals. This finding suggests new ways to monitor changes in the world’s biological diversity. It also shows new ways to see how much people care about nature, and which species and areas might be the most effective targets for conservation. Mittermeier is encouraged by the search results. He commented, “I think there’s a concern among conservationists (生态环境保护者) that people are losing touch with the natural world and that they’re not interacting with native species anymore. And so in that sense, it was really exciting and quite unexpected for me to see people’s Wikipedia interest closely related to changes in nature.” Richard Grenyer, Associate Professor from the University of Oxford, says search data is useful to conservation biologists, “By using these big data approaches, we can direct our attention towards the difficult questions in modern conservation: which species and areas are changing, and where are the people who care the most and can do the most to help.” 1、What have researchers found about species searches? A.They strengthen ties among people. B.They affect the animal movements. C.They differ in language backgrounds. D.They reflect animal migration seasons. 2、What is the purpose of writing Paragraph 3? A.To summarize the research process. B.To further support the research findings. C.To show the variety of species searches. D.To present researchers’ heavy work load. 3、How does Mittermeier feel about the search results? A.Satisfied with Wikipedia’s service. B.Worried about Wikipedia behavior. C.Amazed at people’s care about nature. D.Sad about people’s not getting close to nature. 4、Why does Richard think such search data is useful? A.It helps to aim at conservation targets. B.It increases interest in big data approaches. C.It keeps track of trends in biologists’work. D.It pushes people to solve difficult problems. 25.(10分) Like a lot of health-care professionals, Dr. Brian Goldman finds it extremely difficult to draw boundaries between his work and personal lives. “There’s this view that you should suck it up and do one more thing,” says the ER physician and host of CBC’s White Coat, Black Art. But that “one more thing” often comes at Goldman’s expense. “You’re exhausted and a patient or their family look at you with begging eyes,” he says. “So you have this dilemma: say that your shift is over or give until you’re totally spent?” Goldman’s work stress combined with family tension after his mother was diagnosed with dementia 20 years ago. Caring for her over a decade was difficult, as was dealing with his father’s gr
