1 Unattended Ground Sensor Market Overview
1.1 Product Overview and Scope of Unattended Ground Sensor
The UGS (Unattended Ground Sensor) systems employ various sensor modalities including seismic, acoustic, magnetic, and pyroelectric transducers, daylight imagers and passive infrared imagers to automatically detect the presence of persons or vehicles, and transmit activity reports or imagery via radio-frequency (RF) or satellite communications (SATCOM) links to a remote processing, exploitation, and dissemination (PED) station. The systems are packaged for concealed emplacement in the field and for long-duration unattended operation.
The unattended ground sensor (UGS) is under development as part of the United States Army's Future Combat Systems Program.
This report mainly covers the Seismic UGS, Acoustic UGS, Magnetic UGS, Infrared UGS, Others product type.

1.2.2 Seismic UGS
The Seismic Sensor (MSSH) detects the passage of people and vehicles from vibrations they cause in the ground. The vibrations are picked up by a geophone which activates an alarm. Ranges of the vibration sensor vary depending on ground and soil density. There are two versions of the Seismic Sensor (MSSH sensor only and MSID which includes the sensor and single channel transmitter).
The sensors analyses the electrical signal, generated during seismic vibrations of vehicles or pedestrians, to determine type of intrusion.

1.2.3 Acoustic UGS
An acoustic UGS will detect sound at much greater distances in the direction the wind is coming from.

1.2.4 Magnetic UGS
A magnetic sensor accessory can be connected to a Coyote sensor to provide a trigger for detecting metallic objects. These sensors monitor movement of metal objects such as weapons or vehicles by detecting changes in the magnetic field caused by ferrous materials moving through an area.

1.2.5 Infrared UGS
The IR Break Beam Sensor (MBBD) is an active infrared system. It consists of two elements, an emitter and detector. The emitter transmits a pulsed infrared beam that is aligned with the detector head and is activated if an object interrupts the beam. This sensor is effective for both animate and inanimate objects.

1.3.2 Military Use
Military Use T-UGS are small ground-based sensors that collect intelligence through seismic, acoustic, radiological nuclear and electro-optic means. These sensors are networked devices that provide an early warning system to supplement a platoon size element and are capable of remote operation. To an extent T-UGS will detect, track, classify, and identify personnel and vehicles within its coverage area and report to the FCS Network in near real-time.

1.3.3 Civil Use
Civil Use UGS is used as a surveillance tool during building clearing operations, and in caves, sewers, tunnels, and other confined spaces. Textron Defense Systems, along with Honeywell, designed these wireless, hand emplaced system of sensors to be lightweight and low cost. The U-UGS network is capable of taking field-of-view images of intruders in all light conditions and transmits images to the FCS Network where immediate recognition of human intruders should be achieved or by using the motion detector sensors only when imaging is not needed, only motion detection.

Conclusion
The research group obtained the following conclusions after several months' survey and research:
1. According to QYR study, the Global revenue of Unattended Ground Sensor was valued at 1281.04 Million USD in 2015, and is forecast to reach 1788.56 Million USD by the end of 2021.
2. Harris accounted for 14.30% of the Global Unattended Ground Sensor revenue market share in 2015. Other players accounted for 13.19%, 9.91% including Northrop Grumman and ARA.
3. Global giant manufactures mainly distributed in USA and Europe. They have unshakable status in this field. The key product markets locate at USA and Europe. USA takes the market share of 55.91% in 2015, Europe and China followed by with 18.34% and 10.63% in 2015.
4. The market is not only influenced by the price, but also influenced by the product performance. The leading companies own the advantages on better performance, more abundant product’s types, better technical and impeccable after-sales service. Consequently, they take the majority of the market share of high-end market.
5. Looking to the future years, prices gap between different brands will go narrowing. Similarly, there will be fluctuation in gross margin.
6. Despite the presence of competition problems, due to the Global recovery trend is slightly, investors are still optimistic about this area; the future will still have more new investment enter the field.
