The story of Dr. Percy Julian is an example of the one person’s hard work and bravery. Percy was born in 1899 in Alabama. Because he was African American, he
couldn’t go to the same schools as white children. The schools he went to did not teach
science. And yet, he became greatly interested in the science of chemistry.

  After college, Percy wanted to go to graduate school so he could become a chemist. But one school after another turned him down because of his skin color. Finally, Harvard University accepted him. He got his master’s degree(硕士学位)in 1923. Then he went to Europe. In 1931, Percy became Dr, Percy Julian, doctor of chemistry.

  For the rent of his life, Dr. Julian worked with chemicals(化学物质)found in plants. He know that some plants had chemicals that could heal(治愈)people. So he created those same chemicals in a lab. What is a working day like for an employee? Nowadays, most workers spend eight hours working at their desks every day. Many companies make rules. They ask workers not to come late or leave early. But in the future, there may be no offices anymore. People will have meetings through the Internet instead of sitting in the same room. Workplace and time will be far more flexible. Citrix, a leader company in moble technology, released a report last month. According to it, office space will be 17 percent smaller in 2020. The workplace will provide just seven desks for every ten workers. By that time, 29 percent of people will no longer work in a traditional office.

For companies, the new work style saves them money. However, as workers may connect their companies in different ways at different places, employers need to pay more attention to protecting their date(数据) and information.
