资源描述
Romeo and Juliet Montague and Capulet are two big families in the same city. There are feuds between them so armed clash occurs often. Romeo is a son of Montague, 17 years old. He has both moral integrity and great learning that people around all like him. One day, Rosaline, the girl he loves is sent to convent. He is extremely sad. So his friends advise him to sneak into Capulet’s dinner party to find more beautiful girls. Then he wears a mask and sneaks into the banquet with his friends. However, he is deeply attracted by Capulet’s only daughter, Juliet, in the party. Juliet is the major part that night. As a 13-year-old girl, she is beautiful as a fairy. Romeo showed his admiration to Juliet. And Juliet also has a soft spot for Romeo. But they don’t know each other’s identification that time. When the case is entirely cleared, Romeo still can’t free him from his admiration to Juliet. He climbs over the walls to Capulet’s orchard at deep night. Just the moment he hears Juliet can’t refrain from calling his name by the window. Obviously, they fell in love with each other at the first time. The next day, Romeo goes to the monastery nearby to see the priest and asks for his help. The priest agrees to give him a hand because in the priest’s opinion, maybe it will be an approach to ease the two families’ contradiction if succeeds. Romeo calls Juliet to the monastery by Juliet’s wet nurse. They get married with the priest’s presiding over. That noon, Romeo comes across Juliet’s cousin, Tybalt. Tybalt is about to combat with Romeo. Though Romeo doesn’t want to have a combat, his friend (a pacifist) thinks it’s a disgrace for Romeo. so that friend has to fight with Tybalt. Finally Tybalt seizes the opportunity to kill the friend. Romeo is rather angry and takes his sword to avenge for his friend. As a result, he kills Tybalt. The governor of this city decides to banish Romeo and orders that if he comes back he will be soon sentenced to death. Juliet feels very sad. She loves Romeo so much. Romeo doesn’t want to leave. Until he is persuaded by the priest he agrees to leave temporarily. That night he goes to Juliet’s room by stealthy and enjoys the newly-married night with his dear. The next morning he has to begin his life of banishment before the sunset. As soon as Romeo leaves, the noble Count Paris comes to propose to Juliet. Capulet is very satisfied with him and command Juliet to get marry the next Thursday. Juliet goes to ask the priest to help find ways. The priest gives her a kind of drug, taking which will has an effect to make her like dead but revive after 24 hours. The priest promises to send somebody to call back Romeo and excavate the grave as soon as possible, then she can go far away with Romeo. Juliet takes the drug at the night before marriage as the priest has told her. The next day marriage turns into funeral naturally. The priest immediately sends a person to tell Romeo about the plan. However, Romeo heard the message of Juliet’s death before that person arrives. He comes to Juliet’s “corpse” at midnight and kills the Count Paris who tries preventing him. He excavates the grave and after giving Juliet a kiss he takes the poison completely he has brought. He dies lying beside Juliet. Just the minute, the priest comes in a hurry, only to find Romeo and Count Paris are both dead. Meanwhile, Juliet wakes up. As more and more people gathering together, the priest escapes, leaving Juliet alone. Seeing Romeo being dead, Juliet doesn’t want to live alone in the world but find any more poison. Then she pulls out Romeo’s sword and thrusts at herself, dying on Romeo’s body. Parents of the two families all come. The priest tells them the story about Romeo and Juliet. The parents regain consciousness after losing their offspring. But it’s too late. After that, the two families get rid of their feud and found a statue for Romeo and Juliet in the city. Romeo and Juliet is one of William Shakespeare’s famous dramas. The conflict of it is the love between Romeo and Juliet and the opposition between the two families. It displayed the sharp contradiction between free love and feudal influence. Where the story took place is the city of Verona. It was actually an artistic reappearance of the social reality in British in the end of 16th century, a period of great prosperity ruled by Queen Elizabeth. On one hand, the prince stood for the monarchical power which was widely popular with civilians. On the other hand, the feud between Montague and Capulet stood for the feudal influence extending from Middle Ages which competed with each other. But times are going forward. Offspring of the two powers fell in love with each other at the first time in a party unexpectedly. And families’ hatred and personal love formed the huge contradiction of drama. Romeo and Juliet all overlooked families’ hatred and despised that it just was the meaningless surname that interfered with their combination. True love made them brave and fearless. They got married secretly in the monastery and finally didn’t stint to commit suicide for love to resist feudal influence and feudal arranged marriage. They composed a most soul-stirring and emotional love song. In the end of the drama, Montague and Capulet eventually buried the hatred due to the two loves’ death and founded a statue with golden for them in Verona. It means the victory of the idea which the two young dedicated for. They would be the model of people in future. The old Capulet acknowledged in contrition, “The two lovers have fallen pitiful victims to our hatred.” But people who died in the drama were more than the two and families involved were more than the two. Just as the prince of Verona said, “You were all punished.” However, in the same time, Romeo’s and Juliet’s death has proved the victory of humanism’s new values which they stood for. It also freed the society from meaningless hatred and dispute. In Verona, people would learn a pretty important lesson from Romeo and Juliet’s tragedy: love is stronger than hatred and it can’t be destroyed or conquered even by death!
