It will provide 103 scholarships to students at all levels (Bachelor, Master, PhD, post-doc researchers and staff) from Cambodia, China, Indonesia, India, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia,Thailand and Vietnam to the European consortium partners. · Partner universities. The GATE project's operational objectives are as follows: · The project supports the advancement of third-country institutions' international co-operation capacity through a transfer and export of EU universities’ experience in the implementation of the Erasmus programme and by applying the Erasmus exchange principles (such as the Learning Agreement) to the mobility activities between the partner institutions. · The programme promotes co-operation between sending and hosting institutions, thus mutually enriching the educational environment of both the hosting and sending institutions in the EU and in the respective partner countries through a joint approach in selecting candidates and through a considerable number of mobility exchanges. · The consortium will also provide new cooperation opportunities for EU and Asian universities and contribute to developing new links between academic institutions in the EU and Asia. · The project will enable students and staff to benefit linguistically, culturally and educationally from the experience of pursuing studies or carrying out research in another country. · The programme improves the transparency of studies, credit transfer and recognition, and qualifications by working according to the guidelines of what has become common practice in regard to student exchange under the Erasmus programme. · The programme contributes to providing good students from vulnerable groups with further education and professional development — thus contributing to disseminate EU social and democratic values. The same applies to gender equity. · The programme will enhance the skills and qualifications of international higher education staff through the mobility. In more concrete terms, the project objectives for the mobility programme flow from the Asian partner universities to the EU are as follows: Increasing the number and quality of these exchanges and enhancement through sustainable scientific and cultural cooperation and mutual transfer of experience and knowledge with the partner countries. One of the expected project results will be to enhance as well as encourage and enable highly qualified graduates and scholars from the partner countries to obtain qualifications in the European Union while contributing to the academic excellence and visibility of their respective home universities. The project has been designed so that the exchange programmes will benefit all partners and limit "brain drain". Partner universities The GATE consortium consists of 7 European and 13 Asian universities in a total of 16 countries plus 3 networks as associated partners. EU partner universities: · Johannes Kepler University Linz (Austria; co-ordinator) · University of Tampere (Finland) · Université Pierre et Marie Curie (France) · Freie Universität Berlin (Germany) · Corvinus University of Budapest (Hungary) · Università degli Studi dell'Aquila (Italy) · Universidad Politécnica de Valencia (Spain) Erasmus Mundus scholarships The GATE project foresees to grant a total of 103 scholarships. The amount of the scholarship per month depends on the mobility level and is as follows: · Amount of the scholarship. · Duration of the scholarship. · Distribution of the mobilities. Amount of the scholarship Bachelor Master PhD Post-doc Staff 1.000 € 1.000 € 1.500 € 1.800 € 2.500 € In addition, all scholars receive a full insurance coverage (travel, health, accident) and travel costs from their home country to their European host university (return ticket). Eligibility rules 1. Applicants must have the nationality of Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Thailand or Vietnam. 2. Nationals of Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Thailand or Vietnam must not have resided nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of the European countries at the moment of the submission of the application. This rule does not apply to target group 3 candidates. 3. Applicants must not have already benefited from a scholarship for the same type of mobility under another project under the Erasmus Mundus Action 2 (EMA2) programme or Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window (EMECW). 4. Applicants need to comply with the Target Group and level of mobility requirements. 5. Applicants must have sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction of the Host University. Target groups The GATE scholarships are offered to three Target groups of applicants. It is essential to identify which Target group you belong to before applying, and note that not all types and levels of mobility are available within all Target groups. Target group Description of applicants Level of mobility Target group 1 Nationals of Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Thailand or Vietnam who are registered as students or staff at one of the Partner Universities of the GATE project at the time of submitting their application to the partnership. Bachelor (exchange), Master (exchange and full degree), PhD (exchange and full degree), Post-Doctorate, Staff Target group 2 Nationals of Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Thailand or Vietnam, who are registered at a higher education institution of these countries that is not included in the partnership, or who have obtained a university degree or equivalent from an institution of these countries. This includes the possibility of providing mobility opportunities to nationals of Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Thailand or Vietnam working in public administration, public and private enterprises. Full Master, full PhD Target group 3 Nationals of Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Thailand or Vietnam, who are in particularly vulnerable situations, for social and political reasons. For example: 1) having a refugee status or asylum beneficiaries (international or according to the national legislation of one of the European recipient countries) or 2) it can be proved that they have been the object of unjustified expulsion from university on racial, ethnic, religious, political, gender or sexual inclination or 3) they belong to an indigenous population targeted by a specific national policy or IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons) Full Master, full PhD Types of mobility GATE offers 2 types of student mobility either for an exchange or for a full degree as defined below: 1. Exchange The following applicants are eligible to apply for an exchange (one academic year): Target group 1: Bachelor, Master and PhD level Target group 3: Bachelor level Exchange means that you study for one academic year at one of the European partner universities as part of your degree in your home country. You do not obtain a degree diploma from the host university. However, all academic results will be transferred to the home university and will be recognized. Full recognition is guaranteed by employing two ECTS tools: the Learning Agreement and the transcript of records. In addition, the partners commit to use the ECTS system or to convert the local grades and credits into the ECTS system in order to facilitate the academic recognition for each participating student. 2. Full degree The following applicants are eligible to apply for a full degree: Target Group 1: Master and Doctorate level students Target Group 2: Master and Doctorate level students Target Group 3: Master level students If you apply for a full degree you will obtain a degree diploma at Masters' or PhD level from the European host university (after fulfilling all necessary requirements). Students applying for degree programmes must meet the local admission requirements and must adhere to the application procedure at the institution to which they apply. Levels of mobility 1. Bachelor level Bachelor level students must have completed at least 1 year of undergraduate university studies. 2. Master level Applicants are eligible to apply if they have finished their Bachelor studies. 3. PhD Applicants are eligible to apply if they have completed a Master's programme or have started PhD studies already. 4. Post-Doctorate Applicants are eligible to apply if they are experienced researchers who are in possession of a doctoral degree or who have at least three years of full-time equivalent research experience, including the period of research training, at a research organisation established in accordance with national legislation and practice after obtaining the degree which formally allowed him/her to embark on a doctoral programme offered by higher education institution. 5. Staff In order to be eligible, academic and administrative staff must work in or be associated to one of the Asian universities participating in the partnership. Staff members applying for the scholarships should demonstrate how their stay abroad shall influence the improvement of higher education in their country, also how the activities abroad expectedly change the academic (such as teaching methods, curriculum development, learning material development, planned development of joint research or teaching with EU partner, recognition of studies in EU HEI) or administrative activity (in terms of higher education management, student and staff mobility management, recognition of studies abroad/credit transfer issues) in their home institution. The home and host universities and the individual staff must agree on the programme of lectures to be delivered by the visiting staff, on the research activities or on the type of training to be followed. How to apply The first call for applications (for mobilities starting in fall 2013) is expected to open on December 1, 2012 and to close on January 31, 2013. In order to apply for a scholarship you need to complete the online application and upload the requested documents. Please note: You are requested to upload scanned versions of all your original documents. In case original documents are not in English or the language of your host country, you need to upload scanned versions of official translations of these documents into English or the language of your host university! Please note: Host universities may ask for additional documents to be uploaded (in addition to the documents listed below). Check your host university's list of study programmes and upload any additional documents (if required). It's the responsibility of the applicant that all obligatory documents are uploaded. Document templates: · Learning agreement(318KB) · Study/Research/Teaching/Training plan(310KB) · Letter of Interest(280KB) · CV (Europass format) Required documents for undergraduate students · Learning agreement (one for each host university) signed by the GATE contact person at the home university and the academic coordinator at the Faculty/Department at the home university who will then also be responsible for recognition procedures · CV (Europass format) · Copy of passport or other official identification proof · Recommendation letter(s) (1-2) · Language certificate(s) for the language(s) of instruction at the host university (It is important that you check the requriement of the respective host university for your programme and upload the required language certificates.) · Certificates and transcript of records of your current studies
