课程标准五级目标要求听的方面九年级学生能听懂能根据语调和重音理解说话者的意图;能针对所听语段的内容记录简单的信息。口语方面能在口头表达中进行适当的自我修正;能有效地询问信息和请求帮助;能根据话题进行情景对话;读的方面,能根据上下文和构词法推断、理解生词的含义;能理解段落中各句子之间的逻辑关系;能找出文章中的主题,逻辑故事的情节,预测故事情节的发展和可能的结局。写的方面,能根据写作要求,收集、准备素材;能独立起草短文、短信等,并在教师的指导下联系修改;能使用常见的连接词表示顺序和逻辑关系;
2.教材分析
本单元的语言功能项目是“谈论怎样学习”。主要通过介绍不同的英语学习方法引出引出“学会怎样去学习”这一话题,围绕“如何进行学习”展开各种教学活动,谈论学生对不同学习方法的感受以及给学习带来的效果。然后通过列举一些英语学习中存在的问题,有针对性地提出解决问题的方法通过做调查等方式,谈论学生学习英语的亲身经历,给人以自然的感受。最后,从学生如何面对英语学习中的困难升华到如何面对生活中的挑战。通过听、说、读、写的训练,帮助学生熟练掌握how引导的特殊疑问句和Verb+ by with gerund 结构来谈论学习英语的方法,认识自己在学习方面的长处和不足,进一步学习现在完成时的结构和用法。
3学情分析
学生在七、八年级就学习一些关于学习的一些词汇,了解了一些学习英语的方法。同时在八年级下期学习了现在完成的用法等。这些均为本单元的学习奠定了语言知识。本单元教学内容由浅入深,逐步引导学生用英语表述学习英语的方法和学习中存在的问题以及应对方法,正确理解学习目的,了解不同的学习方法,提高学习效率。
学习目标
Section A:
主要介绍本单元基本的语言内容,注重学生的听说能力和短语的积累。教材通过谈论学习英语的不同方式导入本单元语言功能项目Talk about how to study和语法项目Verb+by with gerund结构,然后通过听说训练来落实这些语言功能项目。
Section B:
(1)通过说和读的练习,让不同的学生说出他们学习英语时遇到的各种困难。
(2)通过听力练习,让学生听出学习中遇到的问题以及解决方法。
(3)通过小组合作,进行阅读和说话训练。
( 4 ) 通过小组合作,运用所提供给的目标语言进行写作练习。要求学生列出他们好的学习习惯并写出怎样才能成为一个成功的学习者。

第一课时:Section A 1 (1a – 2d)
Step 1 Warming-up and leading-in
1. Sing the English song How do you go to school? together.
2. Have a student do the duty report, then talk about his spoken English with him.
T: Your spoken English is great. You have made a lot of progress. How do you improve your English?
S1: I listened to the tape to improve my English.
T: Listening to tapes is a good way to learn English, So, how do you improve your English?
S2: I often listen to English songs.
T: Very good. When we talk about the ways of learning English, we can say like this:
A: How do you learn English?
B: I learn English by watching English movies.
Step 2 Presentation
1a Present some pictures about learning. Teach students to learn “I study by……”
by + doing 通过……方式 如:by studying with a group
by 还可以表示:“在…旁”、“靠近”、“在…期间”、“用、”“经过”、“乘车”等 如:I live by the river. I have to go back by ten o’clock.
The thief entered the room by the window.
The student went to park by bus.
T: Look at the picture, How do they study English?
Ss: They study English by making word cards.
Teacher explains the structure “ by+doing” to the students.
Show other pictures and ask some students to ask and answer in pairs.
T: Do you have other ways to study English? Please say your ways.
Ask students to add other ways they study English.
Step 3 Listening and Speaking
1b look at the picture in Page 1 and help students understand that those students are studying by different ways. Have students read 1a together.
T : Right. Now you will hear some students are talking about how to study for a big test. Please listen for the first time to get the main ideas. Keep notes while listening. OK?
Play the recording two or more times. Then check the answers.
T: We heard just now that how Meiping, Peter and Tony studied for a big test. What about you? How about your friends? Please read activity 1c first, and then make some statements.
Ask two students to read the sentences in activity 1c first. Then act out the scene.
Step 4 Listening Practice
2a T: OK. We all know that different students have different ways to study for a test. In order to improve English, some people also use other ways. Now please look at the picture in activity 2a. Can you see some students in the picture? What are the students doing? Can you guess?
S2: I think they are having a meeting.
S3: I believe that they are studying English.
S4: I know that they are studying together.

T: Right. This is an English club. The students meet after school once a week. They use many good ways to learn English well. Please listen to the recorder. First listen to the recording and check the questions you hear from activity 2a.
Play the recording for the first time.
T: Listen again and check them.
Play the recording for the second time. Then check the answers
T: You’ll hear the same conversation again. This time match each question in activity 2a with an answer from 2b.
Play the recording again, then check the answers.
Step 5 Oral Practice
2c T: There are many ways to study for a test. Which way have you ever used?

S1: By listening to cassettes.
S2: By practicing conversations with friends.
S3: By reading aloud to practice pronunciation.
T: Now please read activity 2c, you can ask and answer in pairs.
Ask the students to act out the dialogue as shown in 2c.

Have the students role-play the conversation in 2d in groups and choose the best one.
Explain some key phrases and sentences and help students understand the language points.

Ask each student to think about one or two other possible problems of learning English. Move around and give help to some students if necessary.
Have some students report their problems in class and write them down on the blackboard.
Have one student read the three problems in Self Check 3, then discuss how to
solve these problems in groups.
Ask each group to report their advice and choose the most suitable advice.
Step 5 Listen and compete
1c. Have students look at the picture in 1c and say: Paul finds it difficult to learn English. He has some challenges in learning English. Let’s listen to the conversation between Paul and his teacher and complete his challenges.
Listen again and check the answer.
According to Paul’s challenges, ask students to give their own solutions.
Step 6 Practice
1d T: Paul has four challenges with English, and you give solutions just now, do
you know what his teacher’s solutions are?
Have students read the missing solutions in the box in 1d. Then ask students to guess the answers .
Now listen again to Paul talking about his challenges at learning English and match them with the solutions listed in the box on page 5. While listening, pay attention to the structures of the sentences.
Play the recording again and check the answers.
Step 7 Pairwork
We are going to role play conversations using the information from activities 2a and 2b.
Point out the sample conversation in the box. Ask two students read it to the class.
