Teaching aims:
To introduce Ss to the goal: talk about how to become a successful learner.
Teaching key points:
Key words: born, be born with, ability, create, brain, active, attention, pay attention to, connect, connect…with, overnight, review, knowledge, lifelong, wisely.
Important phrases:be born with…,depend on, in common, pay attention to, connect…with…, practice makes perfect.
Target language:
1. Everyone is born with the ability to learn.
2. Good learners often connect what they need to learn with something interesting.
3. Even if you learn something well, you will forget it unless you use it.
4. He succeeded by trying many times and learning from his mistakes.
Teaching difficulties:
To help students to understand the text.
Teaching procedures:
Step I Preparation
A game
Step II Presentation
Ask 2 students to say their good learning habits.
2a Have Ss work in groups and have the groups share their views with the class.
Step III Practice
2b Ask Ss to read a passage quickly to get an idea of what it is about is to skim the passage.
2c Have Ss read the passage again and answer the questions
Step IV Production
2d Let Ss look up the following words from the passage in the dictionary. Then write a sentence for each word.
2e Ask Ss to discuss with their groups and share their ideas with the class.
Step V Progress
Show the translation and explanation.
Write a letter telling a friend how to become a better language learner on Page 7.
