论文写作说明及评分标准
课程说明:
本课程运用多媒体教学,内容涉及英美文学的各个方面。包括英美文学发展的基本轮廓及详尽历史,主要作家的生平介绍,代表作品分析,写作风格特点及其影响等。同时通过提供英美文学史上一些有名的篇章,让学生通过学习选文来提高对英语语言的理解和欣赏,从而进一步养成对英语的敏感性,旨在帮助学生提高人文素质、培养他们独立分析问题的能力和养成批判性思维的习惯。提高学生对文学作品的理解力和鉴赏力,从而提高其运用英语语言的综合能力对西方文学文化背景及其影响有一个基本的了解,成功实现跨文化交流和沟通。
考核方法及成绩评定

3、成绩评定:平时成绩50%(诗歌创作,书评,角色分析,影评等),+期末成绩(论文)50%
论文写作说明:
此次论文写作设有十七个选题来供学生进行选择性写作。这十七个选题所对应的关键词分别为:Ancient Greek and Roman Mythologies;Humanism;William Shakespeare; Geoffrey Chaucer; Puritan; Hamlet; American Dream; symbolism; Oscar Wilde; Charles Dickens; metaphysical poets; gothic novel; Edgar Allen Poe; Anglo-American literature; Life of Pie; carnivalization; Faustian theme; stream-of-consciousness学生在进行选择后,围绕其关键词对其起源、历史、影响、作品分析、现实意义等方面进行讨论写作。论文要求为英文写作,字数500-800单词。在写作过程中可借助网络、词典以及相应文献资料,但对文中不管是直接还是间接引用都须明确标出。该论文写作为个人独立创作,故不允许任何形式的剽窃和盗用。
论文整体评分标准:
1. 论文字数不得低于500单词
2. 论文写作中有剽窃行为的,酌情扣除相应分数
3. 论文写作中缺乏新意和独立见解的,酌情扣除相应分数
4. 论文写过中格式混乱的,酌情扣除相应分数
5. 论文写作中英文表达有误的,酌情扣除相应分数(鉴于此课程面向对象为公共大学非英语专业生,此项不以英语专业生的要求来操作)
6. 论文写作中有独立见解的,酌情相加相应分数
7. 论文写作中体现个人审美情趣或个人文学素质修养的,酌情相加相应分数
具体分数标准
1. 90~98分:内容切题,且有自己充分理解和独到见解;表达清楚,文字连贯;句式有变化,句子结构和用词正确。文章长度符合要求。
2. 80~89分:内容切题,且有自己的理解或者独到见解;表达比较清楚,文字基本连贯;句式有一定变化,句子结构和用词无重大错误。文章长度符合要求。
3. 70~79分:内容切题,且有一定的理解或者一定的见解;表达基本清楚;句子结构和用词有少量错误。文章长度符合要求。
4. 60~69分:内容基本切题,且理解问题可以接受;语句可以理解,但有较多的句子结构和用词错误。文章长度基本符合要求。
5. 60分以下:基本按题写作,但只有少数句子可以理解。
6. 0分:文不切题,语句混乱,无法理解。

Directions: write an essay on ONE of the following topics so as to demonstrate your understanding as well as your English proficiency. You are expected to write a WELL-ORGANIZED essay (with your thesis clearly stated, effectively developed and properly concluded) in about 500-800 words.

2. Hamlet: His Characters as a Humanist
3. Which works impresses you most in Anglo-American literature and why?
4. How does Puritanism influence American culture and literature?
5. The Great Gatsby: A Brief Comment on the Collapse of American Dream
6. A Brief Discussion on William Shakespeare’s Artistic Achievements in Characterization, Plot Construction and Language
7. How is symbolism presented in Edgar Allan Poe’s poem The Raven?
8. Please define “aestheticism” and analyze the practice of aestheticism in Oscar Wilde’s Works based on a specific story (eg. Happy Prince, The Picture of Dorian Gray).
9. Please explain your understanding of Charles Dickens as a master of characterization based on one of his books (Oliver Twist or A Tale of Two Cities)
10. What do you think of Geoffrey Chaucer’s contributions to English literature?
11. What does “the Gothic Novel” mean? Try to comment on the gothic elements you may find in Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights.
12. Try to explore the philosophic story Life of Pi from the Faustian perspective?
13. Examine the phenomenon of “carnivalization” around your life and arts.
14. What does “Faustian theme” mean? Please explain how the Faustian theme is presented in Oscar Wilde’s The Picture of Dorian Gray.
15. What is the definition of “Stream of Consciousness”? Please give some examples of its adoption in Virginia Woolf’s works and explain what role it plays.
16. “Metaphysical conceit” is widely used in the poems of John Donne. What does it mean and how does it work to serve the theme of the poem The Flea?
