Teaching contents:
Language in use : Grammar focus—Simple past tense(一般过去时), Unit 2 I saw a terrible movie (Book II)
Teaching aims:
1. Get the students to master the usage of the simple past tense and the past forms of verbs, and can use .
2. Can use the different sentence structures of the simple past tense to talk about their past experiences, can use the negative sentence、positive sentence and special question of the simple past tense skillfully.
3. Train Students’ listening 、speaking、communication 、and cooperative learning abilities .
4、Get the students to learn to be positive in life , and understand the other’s life.
Teaching importance and difficulties:
1. Master the usage of the simple past tense.
2. Can use the different sentence structures (negative sentence、positive sentence and special question) of the simple past tense to talk about the past experiences in spoken and written English skillfully.
Teaching tools: Multi-media teaching .
Teaching methods: TBL and Situational Language Teaching .
Teaching steps:
Step 1:lead-in
1.There was a word, it was very popular in 2012, especially on the TV screen, do you know what it was.
It was : Travel across time and space , in Chinese it means “穿越”,would you like to travel across time and space? And next let’s play a “穿越”game.
2.listen to a song <<yesterday once more>>, and get the students to complete the missing words.
《Yesterday once more》昨日重现
When I young, I’d listen to the radio, Waiting for my favorite songs。 When they I’d sing along, It me smile。 Those such happy times, And not so long ago。
How I where they’d gone。 But they’re back again,
Just like a long lost friend。 All the songs I love so well。
Tell the students these words are past forms, we often use the past forms to describe the past experiences , and lead in the topic of today—the usage of the simple past tense.
Step 2: Presentation
Present the language points of this lesson, get the students to master basic structures of the past tense, and prepare for the next tasks.
1. Simple past tense(一般过去时)用法
Definition :表示过去某时发生的动作或存在的状态。
Structure :主语+动词的过去式
Key words : yesterday,、the day before yesterday,、last week,、ago 、 just now 、 at that time、then、at that moment、in 1980等,上下文清楚时可以不带时间状语。
2.Revise the past forms of the verbs. Get the students to revise the past forms one by one.
V-ed(动词过去式)
规则:

put/ hit/ cut/cost/set
3. Learn the different Sentence Structure of the simple past tense, make sure the students master the structures of the past tense.
What did he do?
肯 He made a snowman last winter.
否 He didn’t make a snowman.
疑 Did he make a snowman?
Yes, he did./ No, he didn’t.
When was he born?
肯 He was born in 1980.
否 He wasn’t born in 1980.
疑 Was he born in 1980?
Yes, I was. / No, I wasn’t.
Step 3. Exercises
Complete the sentences by using the correct verb’s forms, make sure the students master the usage of “did/ didn’t + v”.
1. Bob and his parents didn’t __________ (go) to the local museum yesterday.
2. Rosalie and Nina __________ (chat) online in the winter holiday.
3. Li Ping didn’t __________ (practice) English with her friend last weekend.
4. Zhang Lan’s dad __________ (visit) Shanghai last month.
5. Tom __________ (have) great fun last summer holiday.
6. I __________ (send) a postcard to my friend in Tianjin a week ago
Step 4. Talking
Task 1:
Time-travel 1: Survey
Make a survey to find out : How did your classmates spend their holiday?
T: What did you do in last winter holiday?
Activities :
visited a park watched movies
played basketball went skating
picked oranges went boating
watched cartoons made a snowman
climbed mountains went fishing
surfed the Internet listened to music
went to gym watched TV
sang songs studied English
played computer games read books
Make sure the know the meaning of the expressions before they practice.
Step 5 : Asking and answering
Time—travel 2: Guessing
Guess the activities that your classmates did last week like the following, let us see who share the same experience with you:
A: Did you go shopping last week?
B: Yes , I did./ No, I didn’t.
Tips :
make a snowman go boating watch a film
pick apples visit the zoo go swimming
play volleyball go shopping ...
Make a model for them ,and then get them to work in pairs to practice first , then get some pairs to act it in front of the class. Make sure the students can use the structures freely.
Step 6: Spot Interview
Time—travel 3:Coming back to the childhood .
Make an interview , and ask your classmates more questions about his/ her activities in my childhood like the following:
A: I often played volleyball in my childhood.
B: Where did you go?
C: Who did you go with?
D: When did you go there?
E: How did you like it?
Step 7. Summary
Make a summary for the language items: The usage of the simple past tense.
Step 8. Homework
Write a short passage named 《Yesterday once more》by using the simple past tense , you can begin like this:
When I was young, I often played……with my friends in/at/on…, I felt……, I liked……in my childhood , it made me ……
