Section 1 Analysis of the teaching material(教材分析)
本单元以“旅游”为话题,以介绍“世界名胜古迹”为线索,展开丰富的听、说、读、写等富于交际性的活动,是学生们熟悉且感兴趣的话题。根据这个话题开展教学,有助于激发学生的参与感,也有助于教学的开展,使学生在学习语言知识的同时能了解不同国家的不同文化和名胜古迹。
3a-4在这部分,学生学习从短文中获取详细的信息,同时会进行一些口语和写作训练,这将提高学生的阅读、听和写作技能。3a是一篇关于巴黎旅游景点的信息介绍的短文。学生通过阅读能学习到更多的词汇和表达,同时了解巴黎的一些旅游信息。3b中提供了更多的旅游点的一些信息,鼓励学生积极运用这些信息进行口语交流。培养学生的交际运用能力。而4中的Pairwork 活动是更具有真实性的交际活动,能激发学生的真实感受。

A: Knowledge
1. Enable the students to get some information about Paris.

Step I Warm-up
Show some pictures and encourage to the students to talk about the places they would like to visit.

Step II Lead-in
1. Show one or two pictures related to Paris, France and meanwhile, raise the following question: How much do you know about Paris?
2. Display more pictures to the students to arouse their interest in Paris and raise the following question: What do you think of Paris?

Step III Listening to the article
Ask the students to listen to the article and say: While listening, circle the things you like about visiting Paris and underline the things you don’t like.
Circled:
…one of the liveliest cities in Europe …it has some fantastic sights, including … it’s usually convenient to take the underground train to most places… one thing that is not expensive… is wine!
Underlined:
…It doesn’t have any beaches or mountains…can cost a lot of money …quite an expensive place …many people don’t like to speak English

Step IV Reading for details
Ask the students to read the article more carefully and answer the following questions:
1. Where is Paris? (In France.)
2. Are there any beaches? (No.)
3. What is the most famous sight in Paris? (Notre Dame Cathedral.)
4. If you go to Paris, how will you visit the city?
(By subway. / By taking the underground train.)
5. What isn’t expensive in Paris? (Wine.)
6. If you want to go to Paris, who you’d better go with?
(Someone who can translate things for you.)

Step V Language points
1. For your next vacation, why not consider visiting Paris?
(1) Why not do sth? = Why don’t you do sth? “为什么不……?”用来征求对方的意见或建议。
e.g. Why not go shopping with me tonight?
Why don’t you go trekking with us this weekend?
Translate:

3. Traveling around Paris by taxi can cost a lot of money.
cost指东西值多少钱,主语一般是所买的东西等名词。

Translate: 我花了100元买那本书。(用4种方法翻译)
4. So unless you speak French yourself, it’s best to travel with someone who can translate things for you.
unless conj. = If…not如果不,除非;
e.g. You’ll fail in French unless you work harder.
Ex: Unless he studies hard, he’ll never pass the exam. (同义句转换)

Step VI Retelling
After having a better understanding of the article, ask one or two students to retell Paris according to the following:

Traveling around Paris by taxi …, but it’s convenient to …In general…place…however ….
Most people …But …So…it’s best to travel ….

Step VII Role play
1. Ask two students to read the model conversation and discuss about the given information in pairs.
Sample conversation:
A: Where would you like to go, Kathy?
B: I’d like to visit Kunming.
A: Isn’t it supposed to be very hot?
B: Yes, it is. I’m only going to pack light clothes. But Kunming is also beautiful, and it has lots of wonderful sights.
2. Ask the students to make conversations and then act them out.
