Step I Warming-up
Talk about traveling with students.
T: Do you like traveling? Where would you like to go, cities or countries?
S: I prefer to go to cities. It’s more convenient to go shopping.
S: I like countries better. There we can enjoy beautiful scenery and fresh air.
T: How about climbing hills?
S: I think it’s really interesting and exciting. I believe that it’s a challenge to us all.
T: Different people have different ideas. I agree that climbing hills very often can make us healthier. But sometimes it’s dangerous. Maybe you’ll get lost or hurt. If so, what will you do?
S1: I’ll shout for help if I meet some difficulties.
S2: If I get hurt, I’ll phone to the police or my friend.
S3: I think I’ll follow a river if I lose my way. Then I’ll find a village or town.
Talk about the pictures.
T: In this unit, we are going to learn how to describe an experience when traveling.
Step II Listening and reading
Listening
Ask students to listen to the conversation and talk about the photo.
T: Please look at the picture. Anyone know the place?
S: It’s Baihai Park and Baita.
T: Now listen to the conversation on the recording and find out what the conversation say about the photo.
Then ask students to listen again and answer the questions in activity 2.
Check the answer with the class.

Ask students to listen to the conversation and fill in the following blanks.

Pronunciation
Ask students to say the sentences in activity 6 and then listen to the recording and check if they are right.
Then ask them to work in pairs and talk about the situations in activity 7 and then make a report.
Sample dialogue:

B: It was four weeks ago when we were having an English class.
A: Who spoke to you then?
B: Miss Zheng.
A: What did she say?
B: She told me not to be late again. If so, I would fail the exam.
A: What did you say then?
B: What could I say? I promised I would never be late again.
Sample report:
I was very late for the class that morning. Our English teach, Miss Zheng, asked me why I was so late and told me not to be late any more and if so, I would fail the exam. I promised I would never be late again.

Step I Revision and warming-up
In this procedure, first ask and answer questions in class.

T: In the last unit, we learned how to report instructions. This unit we are going on with it in a letter Sally wrote to her parents.
Step II Reading
Pre-reading
First ask students to describe the picture.
T: What do you think of a trip to a park? Is it interesting or dangerous? What can you see there? Maybe you’ll enjoy yourself, and you’ll have some wonderful experiences. But remember to be careful when you go on a trip. Now look at the picture. Can you describe it?
S: There are many green trees and high mountains.
S: The mountains are so steep. I don’t think anyone can clime up to it.

Next please read and choose the most important or interesting facts about Wulingyuan and write a paragraph about it. The following questions can help you.

Sample version:
Wulingyuan is about 390 square kilometers and about 400 kilometers from Changsha. It has unusual mountains (more than 3,000), small rivers (800), deep canyons, special caves, forests, many kinds of plants and animals. It is famous for its strange shape of tall rocks, rare trees and beautiful fog. It’s very easy to find hotels or tents in the park if you want to spend your time off there.

I. A Horrible Experience
I used to be fond of skating. But now things have changed because of a horrible experience.
