Step I Revision
T: In the last period, I asked you to write something about a famous city and give a brief introduction to it. Have you finished it?
A sample version:
For next summer holiday, why not consider taking a trip to London. It is the capital of UK, and it is also one of the most beautiful and liveliest cities in Europe. There aren’t mountains around it but there is a river going through it. The river is called Thames. London has a lot of beautiful sights, including the famous Westminster Church and Oxford University and Cambridge University.
It is expensive to travel around London, which is a big, crowded city. It is usually convenient for you to travel by underground train. Shopping in London costs a lot of money. As we all know, English can help you a lot in England.

Step II Reading and Writing (3a, 3b: P56)
T: We’ve heard conversations about travel last period. We know if we have problems in planning a trip, we can ask a travel agency for help. You can telephone them, write a letter to them, or write an e-mail to them. Now please read an e-mail written by S.T.Zhang on page 56. Let’s see what he wants to do. After reading, judge the statements in 3a.

Dear S.T. Zhang,
We are very glad to receive your e-mail. After reading it, I think I know your ideas. Our firm can offer almost every kind of services. And we decided to give you the following advice: You can go to the city of Dalian. It is a famous summer resort and is loved for its clear fresh air, blue sea, green hills. There are several beautiful beaches in Dalian, including Golden Pebble Beach, Fu Jia Zhuang Beach and the beach at Xing Hai. It’s an excellent place for swimming and water sports. When you get there, you can stay in any hotel near one of the three beaches. The price is not so high. As for the transportation, it depends. If you have enough time, you may travel by train. In this way, you can enjoy beautiful scenery sitting in the train.
