A report on charity
I. Teaching aims and learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. work together with the group members and share ideas with each other;
2. do a report on the ways to help different charity projects.

II. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty
1. Cultivate students’ confidence of learning English and improve students’ motivation to learn English.
2. Searching for related information about a charity.
3. Do a meaningful, practical and attractive report.

III. Teaching procedures
Step I Lead-in
1. Present some international charities
2. Group discussion
(1) How do the charities help people?
(2) What charity do you like best? Why?
T: Today we’ll do a report on the ways to help different charity projects.

Step II Pre-task
1. Some charity projects in China
(1) Get the students to work in groups of four. Think about different charity projects in China.
(2) Present five charity projects in China:
●Project Hope
●Project Green Hope
●Spring Bud Project
●Save China’s Tigers
●Happiness Project
2. Details about different charity projects
(1) What is its name?
(2) When was it set up?
(3) Why was it set up?
(4) What kind of work does it do?

Step III While-task
1. Get each group to choose a charity project
2. Help the students do a report on a charity project step by step
(1) Project choosing: Choose a charity project and do a survey among the group members.
(2) Information collecting: Prepare a list of questions and find information in leaflets, advertisements and articles.
Questionnaire 1
a. What is its name?
b. When was it set up?
c. Why was it set up?
d. What kind of work does it do?
e. How many people has it helped?
f. What can we do for it?
(3) Interview Conducting: Make 12 copies of Questionnaire 2 and get each member of the group to ask three classmates the questions.
Questionnaire 2
a. Have you heard about Project Hope in China?
b. Do you know what it does?
c. Do you know how it raises money?
d. Are you willing to help poor children?
e. How can you help them?
f. Do you know of other ways to help this project? If yes, what are they?
(4) Group discussing: Discuss with the group members how to present the report, especially making a list of all the suggestions about what people can do for the charity.
How people can help

●work as volunteers
●donate money or things
●give out leaflets to ask for help
●organize activities to raise money

(5) Report improving: Help the students improve their own reports, showing some tips:
●Get information as much as possible.
●Use charts, graphs or other things to help.
●Draw pictures and use photos to make the report attractive.

Step IV Post-task
1. Presentation time
Some groups do their reports on the ways to help different charity projects.
