● To learn to read in English
Procedures
Warming up by learning about present progressive as future
PRESENT PROGRESSIVE
This tense is often used when we want to talk about what has been arranged for the future; events over which we or others have some control.
What are you doing tonight? (NOT What will you do tonight? NOR What do you do tonight?)
I'm looking after their cat while they're on holiday next month.
When is he starting his new job?
As previously stated, in many instances going to or the present simple could also be used to talk about plans (but usually NOT will !!)
GOING TO
Going to is often interchangeable with the present progressive, but its use does emphasise the idea of a decision that has been made. It is also used to make predictions based on present evidence, on what we can see in front of us, for example.
I'm going to go on a diet next week.
What are you going to wear for the party?
Have you seen the state of the roads? I'm going to write to the council!
He's playing terribly now! He's going to lose!
Hold me! I think I'm going to faint!

Reasons against becoming a professional athlete
Doing something that you love; become famous; people all over the world will know you; help others; give money to school and charities.
Very dangerous; people will watch you all the time and follow you everywhere; you won’t know who your real friends are.
After school you will have to write down all the expressions in your Expression Book.
become an athlete, become a professional athlete, like a dream job, make a living doing something you love, become famous, people all over the world, give money to schools and charities, do a lot of work to help people, a great chance, have many problems, watch you all the time, follow you everywhere, make life difficult, play sports for a living, get injured, become rich, have a difficult time, become rich and famous
3b Completing a letter
Dear Mr Brown,
I have decided that I won’t join the Lions. If I join it, I will have to go on the way all the time. If I have to go on the way all the time, I won’t have time to study my lessons. If I don’t have time to study my lessons, I won’t go to college. If I don’t go to college, I won’t find a good job. If I don’t find a good job, I won’t be rich. If I am not rich, I won’t be able to travel around the world. But…If I join the Lions, I will be able to travel around the world! So I will join it right now.
Sincerely,
Zhao Hongyu
3c Writing about your own plans
Next you are to write about your own plans using ‘if’ and “will”.
Maybe I will become an astronaut. If I become an astronaut, I will fly to the moon. If I fly to the moon, I will be able to see Chang’e. I like to hear her stories.
Maybe I will become a part-time tutor. If I become a part-time tutor, I will teach English. It is a dream job for me. If I teach English I will ask my students to pay most attention to reading and reading aloud. They are the only two most important things in learning a foreign language. If students are able to read well and read aloud well, they will find English both interesting and useful. They will do better for their country.
4 Doing groupwork
Write a story with your classmates in a group of four. Begin your story with “I think I’m going to …”. Pass your paper to next student and he continues with “If…”.
I think I’m going to go to the movies tonight. If I go to the movies, I won’t finish my homework. If I don’t finish my homework, my parents will be angry with me. If my parents will be angry with me, they won’t be healthy. If they aren’t healthy, they won’t work well. If they don’t work well, they won’t make lots of money. If they don’t make lots of money, I will have difficulties going to college….
Closing down by sing this song called:
IF TOMORROW NEVER COMES
When I first heard this Garth Brooks song (circa 1994), it spoke to a situation in my life and prompted me to cry. Years later, the song can still make me sad.
Written by: Kent Blazy, Garth Brooks
Sometimes late at night
I lie awake and watch her sleeping
She's lost in peaceful dreams
So I turn out the lights and lay there in the dark
And the thought crosses my mind
If I never wake up in the morning
Would she ever doubt the way I feel
About her in my heart
If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I loved her
Did I try in every way to show her every day
That she's my only one
And if my time on earth were through
And she must face the world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes
'Cause I've lost loved ones in my life
Who never knew how much I loved them
Now I live with the regret
That my true feelings for them never were revealed
So I made a promise to myself
To say each day how much she means to me
And avoid that circumstance
Where there's no second chance to tell her how I feel
If tomorrow never comes
Will she know how much I loved her
Did I try in every way to show her every day
That she's my only one
And if my time on earth were through
And she must face the world without me
Is the love I gave her in the past
Gonna be enough to last
If tomorrow never comes
So tell that someone that you love
Just what you're thinking of
If tomorrow never comes
