Lesson 15: Making a Difference Teaching Analysis 1. Teaching Aims l Knowledge Section: (1) Master the following words:difference, village, yourself, drop, possible, never, future (2) Common phrases:make a difference, give up, drop out of school, in the future l Skill Section Continue to build up the ability in listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating, especially enable the students to make sentences in English . l Affect Section Get the students to describe the importance of making a difference. 2. Teaching Focus Vocabulary and patterns in this lesson 3. Difficult points difference的用法, give up Teaching Aids Multimedia, radio-tape Teaching Procedures Step I Class Opening (1 minutes) 1. Greeting T: Good morning, class! How are you today? Ss: Good morning, Miss Dai ! Fine, thank you. And you? T: I’m fine, too. 2. Free Talk T: What’s the date today? S1:It’s April 7th. T: What day is it today? S2: It’s Monday. T: Look out of the window. What’s the weather like today? S3: It’s sunny. [设计思路:使用亲切、贴近生活的问候语言拉近师生关系,带学生自然进入英语氛围。] Step II Review(2 minutes) The teacher shows some exercises on the PPT. Students do the exercises and check the answers together. Step III New Concepts (28 minutes) 1. Lead-in Ask the students two questions, and let them think them over, then try to answer them. 2. New words Read and recite. 3. Listening T: Play the audiotape. Let the students listen to the tape and write true or false. S1: Tell her answers to the whole class. T: Check the answers as a class. 4. Read and fill in the blanks. T: Let the students read the text twice, and then fill in the blanks. S1: Tell the other students his answers. T: Check the answers . 5. Pair Work T: Show the students a group of pictures. They all make a difference in their own life. Ask the students to make a dialogue with their partners. Ss: Act out their dialogues in class. 6. Language points T: Show them the meaning of “difference”. Then ask them to do some exercises to practice this word. S1: I want to make a difference in the future. S2: Can you tell the differences between the twins? S3: English names are different from Chinese names. T: Check the answers . T: Tell them how to use “give up”. Let them write down. Then ask them to do some exercises. S1: You shouldn’t give up studying English. S2: Never give it up. S3: Give up smoking. It’s bad for your health. T: Check the answers . T: Show them the meaning of “drop”. Then ask them to do some exercises to practice this word. S1: dropped out of Step IV Practice(7 minutes) T: The teacher show the exercise on the PPT Students do the exercises and check with the help of the teacher. Step V Class Closing(2 minutes) Let’s see our homework for today. (1) Read the text at least twice after class. (2) Review the key points in this lesson (3) Finish off the exercises in Activity Book (4) Preview the next lesson
