Step 1 Warming up
Revision: I want to buy a car, but I don’t have enough money. What should I do?
Step 2 Before you read
1. T: Do you often take part in activities after class?
Ss: Yes, of course.
T: What activities do you often do and what activities don’t you do?
S1: After school, I often play basketball.
S2: I often go swimming. I don’t like basketball.
S3: ……
T: Very good. Now fill in 1a by yourself.
2 . Some new words
Check these new words in 1b they looked up in the dictionary. Ask students to make a sentence with each word. Have a brief memory quiz on all the words.
Step 3 While you read
1. Ask students to read and notice the words they have just looked up in their dictionary. Read aloud these sentences where there are these words.
2. There are many useful phrases in this article. Read it and try to find them out. Write some important phrases on the blackboard: as much as possible, all kinds of, on the one hand, on the other hand, under pressure
3. Play the tape.
Step 4 After you read
1. T: Do you often take park in activities after school? Are you under pressure? Is the situation the same in China? Look at 3a.
2. Look at 3b.Write four sentences using one of the words from activiti1b in each sentence.
S1: The students often complain that they have less free time.
3. As we know, Cathy Taylor gives their children too much pressure. Do you agree to her idea? Suppose you are Dr Alice Green, Write a letter to her to give her some advice.
