Unit 1 It’s the band which gets everyone dancing.
■ Warm up by talking about band.
Hello, class. Look at the photo. What is in the photo? Yes, it is band. But what is a band? In music, a band is a group of people (usually musicians) that gets together to sing songs, or perform music. Do you know about any bands in China? What is your favourite band Tell us something about it?
■Listen and read.
On page 64 in the box is a conversation among Tony, Lingling, Betty and Daming. They are talking about bands.
Before we listen to it, let’s go on to read it first. While reading, try to: cut/ the sentence into thought groups, study the predicative, darken the connectives and underline all the useful expressions. (阅读过程中,断开/意群,观察谓语构成,圈出连词,摘录短语搭配。)
Useful expressions (有用的短语搭配)

■Talk as they do. (仿说)
Now in groups we shall try to say something about accident. We shall talk as they talked just now.
Lingling: There are a lot of students here!
Tony: Well, everyone wants to come to the English Speech Match. The trouble is, I want to get some good photos, but I can't see over people's heads.
Daming: Are you going to enter the English Speech Match?
Tony: You bet! By the way, is that Wang Hua in the first row? What’s he doing here?
Betty: Same as you! He is taking photos.
Darning: Who's Wang Hua?
Tony: He's the student who won the match last time!
Daming: The one who won the English Speech Match last summer?
Tony: That's right.
Lingling: Shh! It's Li Qingyuan speaking! It's the English speech which gets everyone here.
Tony: Those loudspeakers are really loud! Maybe I’ll go upstairs.
Betty: OK, but look after your camera!
(Later ...)
Betty: Hi, Tony. How many photos did you take?
Tony: It’s you! I took thirty great shots of the student who took the first place in the speech match. Where is Wang Hua?
Betty: He left early. There was something wrong with his camera.
Tony: It’s a pity! But now I'm in with a chance to win the photo match!
Lingling: But, Tony ... where's your camera?
Tony: It's here, in my bag. Oh no, it's gone!
Betty: You're kidding!
Tony: But I used it a minute ago. Perhaps I left it upstairs ...
Betty: He's quite unhappy.
Lingling: His mother is the person who will be most unhappy.
Tony's mum: Hi, everyone!
Betty: Oh! Mrs Smith! Help! I mean….. Hello! Tony? Er, we didn't expect to see you!
Tony's mum: I've just come to pick Tony up. Did he try out my camera?
■ Find restrictive attributive clause with which and who in the conversation.
In the conversation there are some restrictive attributive clauses with which and who. Now go over it again to find out all the restrictive attributive clauses with which and who.
Then make sentences which have restrictive attributive clause with which and who.

3. It's the band which gets everyone dancing.
4. I got some great shots of the boy who plays the guitar on the left.
