Unit 1 Past and present Comic strip & Welcome to the unit I. Teaching aims and learning objectives By the end of the lesson, students should be able to: 1. talk about the changes around us; 2. talk about the changes of transport; 3. get to know the present perfect tense; 4. talk about the advantages and disadvantages of change. II. Teaching contents 1. New words and phrases: past, present, just, used to 2. New structures: Have you seen my food? Yes, I’ve just eaten it. You used to share food with me! How did you go to school when you were a student? III. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty 1. To talk about different transport at different times. 2. To get to know the present perfect tense. IV. Teaching procedures Comic strip Step 1 Lead-in 1. Work in groups and talk about the changes around us 2. Present pictures to help students know the changes around us (1) People. (2) Transport. (3) House. (4) Environment. 【设计意图:通过比较20世纪70年代的三大件与现代的三大件,激发学生积极思考,大胆讨论身边的变化。再用图片展示,引出in the past和at present,进入本课话题。】 Step 2 Presentation 1. Talk about changes in Eddie and Hobo T: The world changes every day. All of us have changed. What about Eddie and Hobo? Have they changed? 2. Listen and answer T: Listen to the conversation between Eddie and Hobo and answer the following questions: (1) What was in the bowl an hour ago? (2) Why did Eddie eat Hobo’s food? Step 3 Practice 1. Listen and read T: Now let’s listen and repeat. Pay attention to your pronunciation and intonation. 2. Read and fill in the blanks 3. Role-play T: Work in pairs and act out the Comic strip. 4. Read and translate (1) Present sentences using the present perfect tense. Ask students to find more sentences. (2) Ask students to turn the sentences into Chinese. (3) Present more examples. 6. New structure: used to do sth. 【设计意图:通过观看动画片段,让学生讨论Eddie和Hobo的变化,理解对话,并完成拓展练习。呈现例句,引导学生初步感知现在完成时的用法。】 Welcome to the unit Step 1 Presentation 1. Free talk T: Look at this picture and talk about how people go back home for the Spring Festival. 2. Different forms of transport T: Look at pictures about different forms of transport and finish Part A. T: How do you go to school every day? 4. Listen and answer T: Millie and her dad are talking about transport at different times. Let’s listen to their conversation and then try to answer the following questions. (1) How did Millie’s father go to school when he was a student? (2) Why does Millie take a bus now? 【设计意图:通过创设情境,带领学生复习已知的交通工具的名称,同时引导学生根据实际情况选择合适的交通工具出行。在听力环节,让学生带着问题听对话,训练他们获取细节信息的能力。】 Step 2 Practice T: Now it’s your turn to talk about different transport used in the past and at present. Use the following model to make up new conversations. S1: How did you … when you were …? S2: I used to … by … S1: Why didn’t you take a …? S2: Because … S1: How do you … now? S2: I … by … It’s … 【设计意图:创设真实情境,让学生根据图表中的信息运用所学知识创编对话,有效锻炼学生的口头表达能力。】 Step 3 Production 1. Free talk T: Where did you go during the winter holiday? How did you go there? Why? 2. Play a guessing game What is Ma Yun’s choice? 3. Advantages and disadvantages of change (1) What advantages and disadvantages do modern forms of transport bring us? (2) What types of transport do you prefer? (3) Why should we choose public transport? T: Let’s travel by public transport and protect the earth. 【设计意图:通过不同形式的活动,巩固所学的关于交通工具的知识。通过最后的讨论环节,引导学生思考“改变”对我们的生活带来的影响,同时培养学生绿色出行的意识。】 V. Homework 1.
