2 prevent v. 防止； 预防
prevent 作为及物动词，后街名词或代词作宾语。
We must do our best to prevent the air pollution.
我们必须尽力阻止空气污染。
【词组】prevent sb. from doing sth. 相当于stop/keep sb. from doing sth. 阻止某人做事
Will you please prevent him from smoking here ？ 请你阻止他在这抽烟好吗？
3 suppose 猜想； 假设 后多加宾语从句
（1）suppose + that 从句，表示“猜测；假定”。如：
I suppose that you are right. 我想你是对的。
You can suppose that A equals B. 你可以假定A等于B。
（2）suppose +名词 / 代词 + to be...，表示“认为……是……”。
Many people suppose him to be over 50. 许多人认为他已经50多岁
（3）suppose用于祈使句中，表示“让……”。如：
Suppose we go for a swim. (= Let's go for a swim.) 让我们去游泳吧。
be supposed to do sth. 应该做某事 ；理应
You're not supposed to take the books out of the room.
这些书不应该拿出屋去。
Key sentences
1 Nearly finished! 快做完了。
本句是口语省略句，其中finished 是形容词，作表语， 表示“完成来的； 结束了的。” 全句是“I am nearly finished.”
All that is finished now. 所有那一切现在都结束了。
He won't be finished for at least an hour. 他至少要过一个小时才能结束。
2 We are better at preventing illness. 我们更加擅长预防疾病。
be better at 是 be good at 的比较级形式，后加名词或动名词。
I am better at playing football . 我更加擅长题足球。
3 I suppose that’s because public transport is much better today.
我猜想那是因为现在公共交通好多了。
此句是一个好有宾语从句的复合句。而在宾语从句中又有一个because引导的表语从句。注意suppose 的用法类似于think。变否定句时应该否定主句； 当变反意疑问句时，当主语是第一人称时应根据从句来变， 若是其他人称应根据主句来变反意疑问句。
I don’t suppose he will come today. 我猜想今晚他不会来了。
We don’t suppose Tom will come, will he ? 我们认为汤姆不会来， 对吗？
3 Is life today better or worse than it was 50 years ago ?
今天的生活比50 年前的生活更好还是更差？
本局势选择疑问句。 选择疑问句一般给出两种或两种以上的情况，要求对方选择一中情况回答。选择疑问句供选择的两部分用or连接，语调是前升后降，答语必须是完整的句子活起省略形式， 不能用yes 活no。
